Fundraisers
• Laurelville Christian Retreat Center, 941 Laurelville Lane, Mt. Pleasant Township, will host a lunch fundraiser, “Kentuck Knob,” at noon Oct. 6 in the center small dining hall. Kentuck Knob manager Tim Fischer will be the speaker. Cost: $15 paid in advance. CDC guidelines will be observed. • West Newton Public Library is accepting orders for a takeout ham dinner planned for 4-7 p.m. Oct. 24. Pick-up will be Gary’s Chuckwagon Restaurant, 109 S. Second St., West Newton. Menu: slice of baked ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, roll and butter and dessert. Cost: $15. • West Newton Public Library will have a used book sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside in the library parking lot, 124 N. Water St. All books were sanitized and quarantined. Social distancing and face masks required. Rain date is Oct. 10. Details: 724-633-0798
• White Valley AMVETS will host its third annual Purse Bash at 1 p.m. Sunday at the White Valley Park, Ballpark Road. Gates open at noon. Tickets include the chance to win 13 designer purses with matching wallets, door prizes, food, beer and sangria. There will be a basket auction, 50/50 raffle, Pick of the Table raffle and money dress. Bring a chair. Proceeds will benefit the remodeling of the kitchen. Advance tickets recommended. • The Laurel Highlands chapter of the Women’s Business Network will meet at 8 a.m. Thursday online. Those attending can learn how the group supports the success and growth of women in business. All meetings will be held online until further notice. Details: Rita Graham, 724-963-5683
• Mt. Pleasant American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the post, 752 W. Main St. to celebrate its 90th anniversary. Dues for 2020-21 are payable. No dinner will be served; members can order from the post kitchen menu. Face masks required.
