Church news
• First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon, 501 Fayette Ave., will have a program, “Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” to discuss the church, its mission and goals at 9 a.m. Sunday at the church. • Mt. Pleasant Ministerium will sponsor free lunches at noon Wednesdays through April 5 at Mt. Pleasant Church of God, 936 W. Main St. The Rev. Lee Smith from Mt. Joy Covenant Brethren Church will be the speaker at the Wednesday lunch. No reservations are required, and free parking is available.
• St. James Parish, New Alexandria, will sponsor a Lenten lecture series for adults from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesdays through March 28 at the church, 306 St. James Lane. The topic for Tuesday will be “The Sights, Sounds and Symbols of Holy Week.” No reservations required. Details: 724-668-2829.
Fundraisers
• Lincoln Heights Civic Association will have bingo from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the center, 42 Millersdale Road, Jeannette. There will be 20 regular games and five quickies. Cost: 25 cents for a three-card board; $1 for quickies. Payout is 50-50. Free coffee.
• Youngwood Lions will sponsor a pancake, sausage and egg breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church, 100 Lincoln St., Youngwood. Dine in or takeout. Cost: $8; 6 to 12, $4.
• The Disciples Hands Ministry of Greensburg Church of the Brethren will have a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the church, 554 Stanton Ave., Greensburg. • Mt. Pleasant Township Lions Club and Norvelt Volunteer Fire Department will have an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Roosevelt Hall, 2325 Mt. Pleasant Road. • A pancake breakfast to benefit the Greensburg Masons will be from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Masonic Center, 349 Donohoe Road, Greensburg. Menu: pancakes, sausage, fruit cup, coffee and juice, $10; 5 to 11, $5.
• A spaghetti dinner will be from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Level Green Presbyterian Church, 105 Olive Drive, Trafford. Dine in or takeout. Menu: spaghetti, meatballs, salad, Italian bread and dessert, $10; age 3 to 10, $4; 2 and younger, free. Tickets: at the church office or at the door.
• The partner parishes St. John Baptist de La Salle and St. Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes will host a spaghetti dinner from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday in the St. John Church Hall, 479 Athena Drive, Delmont. • A used book sale will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 20 to 23, March 25, March 27 to March 30 and April 1 at Greensburg Hempfield Area Library, 237 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Greensburg. • Ligonier Valley Historical Society will meet at 1 p.m. March 23 in the common room at Compass Inn Museum, Laughlintown. The selection this month will be “Mr. Timothy” by Louis Bayard. • The 21st annual Westmoreland County March for Parks event will be March 25 at Twin Lakes Park. Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. at the park nature center. Walkers will turn in donations and contributions. Those who turn in at least $30 will earn an event long-sleeved T-shirt, and there will be a pancake breakfast, raffles, historical presentations and re-enactments.
