Westmoreland happenings: Bingos, craft shows, turkey dinner, more
Submissions from nonprofit organizations for Briefly Speaking can be emailed to Carol Pinto-Smith at cpinto-smith@triblive.com or mailed to Briefly Speaking, 210 Wood St., Tarentum, PA 15084. Include a complete address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks before the event. Each announcement is printed once; there is no fee.
Fundraisers
• St. Barbara Parish, Harrison City, will host its monthly bingo at 6:45 p.m. Nov. 9 at the church, 111 Raymaley Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. Paper packages start at $27. There will be a must-go jackpot and free coffee. The kitchen will be open and the building is handicap accessible. Details: 724-744-4584 or 724-744-7474.
• Union Presbyterian Church, 656 Route 380, Washington Township, will sponsor a drive-thru rigatoni dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 10 at the church. Menu: rigatoni with meat sauce, salad, rolls and dessert. Donations accepted. Drive around to the back of the church.
• Friends of Penn Area Library will sponsor the final book sale of the year from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 11 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 12 at the library, 2001 Municipal Court, Harrison City. Books are priced individually and by the bag. A $3 bag sale will be from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 12. Proceeds will benefit the library. Donations are accepted year-round during library hours. • A Swiss steak dinner will be from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at First United Methodist Church, 10 Atlantic Ave., Manor. Menu: Swiss steak, baked potato, green beans, coleslaw, homemade bread, dessert and beverages. Cost: $15; senior citizens, $14; children, $7. Dine-in or takeout.
• Trinity United Methodist Church, 407 Duquesne Ave., Trafford, will have a craft and vendor show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 12 at the church. There will be a bake sale and concession stand.
• Southwest Greensburg Civic Society will host a Celebration of Community Autumn Harvest Dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Nov. 12 at Southwest Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department, 601 Guthrie St. Admission: $10 at the door, includes finger food, appetizers, soft drinks and water. BYOB. There will be a 50/50 raffle. Must be 21 to attend.
• Gobble Gala, a fundraiser for the Tom’s Turkeys charity, will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 12 at Moments Event Hall, 221 Jennie Drive in the Circleville area of North Huntingdon. Tickets: $75 per couple; $40 each; includes dinner by Angelo’s Cucina and Catering, entertainment by David Penn, beer, wine and soft drinks. There will be a basket raffle and 50/50. Tickets: Luehm’s Candy, 46 Buttermilk Hollow Road, North Huntingdon; or from Halle Copeman at S&T Bank, 309 Main St., Irwin. Tom’s Turkeys provides food for families in need from the North Huntingdon, Irwin and North Irwin areas.

• Community Revitalization of West Newton will host a silent art auction from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at West Newton United Presbyterian Church, 300 E. • Level Green Boy Scout Troop 201 will sell takeout homemade hot pierogis from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. or until sellout Nov. 13 at Level Green Lions Community Building, 123 Murrysville Road. Cost: $10 per dozen.
• A fall harvest craft show will be from noon to 5 p.m. Nov. 13 at Grapeville Event Center, 2528 Newark St. Free admission. There will be food, including kettle corn and baked goods. • A free screening of the Ken Burns 30-minute documentary, “Hiding in Plain Sight: Youth Mental Illness,” will be at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Seton Hill University’s Performing Arts Center, 100 Harrison Ave., Greensburg. A panel discussion with mental health experts will be afterward. The event is sponsored by WQED, Mental Health America of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Excela Health and Seton Hill University. • Excela Health Home Care and Hospice and Hartman-Graziano Funeral Home Inc. will host a free art activity for children coping with grief and loss at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Latrobe Art Center, 819 Ligonier St. Participants will create an ornament that honors their loved one and represents feelings they have experienced following the loss. • The Montserrat Boys Choir from outside Barcelona, Spain, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 in the Saint Vincent Archabbey Basilica, 300 Fraser Purchase Road, Unity.
