Submissions from nonprofit organizations for Briefly Speaking should be emailed to cpinto-smith@triblive.com. Include a complete address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks prior to the event. Each announcement is printed once; there is no fee.

Church News

• Greensburg Church of the Brethren will host a night of fun and fellowship for individuals and groups with developmental disabilities from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays at the church, 554 Stanton St. Dinner is included. Participants must be accompanied by a family member or caregiver. Donations will be accepted. Details: 724-834-2130 or gbgcob.org.

Fundraisers

• Lincoln Heights Civic Association will have bingo from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 7 at the center, 42 Millersdale Road, Jeannette. There will be 20 regular games and five quickies. Cost: 25 cents for a three-card board; $1 for quickies. Payout is 50/50. Free coffee.

• Christ Lutheran Church, 302 Vine St., West Newton, will have a rummage sale from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 8, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 9 and noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 10 at the church as part of the West Newton Community Festival.

• Community Church of Hecla, 537 Hecla Road, Mt. Pleasant Township, will host a turkey dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 9 at the church. Dine in or takeout. Details and takeout orders: 724-396-8065 or 724-244-2586.

• Sewickley Area Business and Community Association, also known as the Herminie Business League, will have its annual car, truck and bike show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 9 on Sewickley Avenue, Herminie. Entry fee: $8 in advance; $10 on event day. Reservations: Christina, 724-309-4322.

• Jeannette American Legion will host a bingo at 1 p.m. Sept. 10 at the post, 109 S. Fifth St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Cost: $25 per packet, includes regular and special games. Full extra packets, $15. There will be a $750 jackpot game, door prizes and a 50/50. The kitchen will be open. Proceeds benefit American Legion activities. Details: 724-523-6231.

• Historic Hanna’s Town will have its annual antiques and collectibles sale Sept. 10 at 809 Forbes Trail Road, Hempfield. Gates open at 7:30 a.m. Admission: $3 per car. Details: 724-836-1800 or westmorelandhistory.org.

• St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church,4480 Route 981, Trauger, Mt. Pleasant Township, will have bingo Sept. 8 at the parish center. Doors open at 4 p.m. and early birds start at 6:30 p.m. Details: 724-423-8838.

• The West Newton Community Festival will be Sept. 8, 9 and 10 at the Vine Street Park. A parade will line up at 5 p.m. Sept. 8 at West Newton Elementary School. There will be a pie-eating contest, entertainment, food, raffles, rummage sale and flea market.

• St. Michael Orthodox Church, 1182 Ashland St., Greensburg, will sell takeout Mediterranean dinners from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 10 at the church. • Westmoreland County Blind Association will host a bingo bash at 1 p.m. Oct. 7 at West Point Firehall, 100 Volunteer Drive, Greensburg. Doors open at 11:45 a.m. Sponsorship opportunities are available and basket auction donations welcome. Admission: $25, includes cards, dauber, boxed lunch and a chance to win a door prize. • Adams Memorial Library, 1112 Ligonier St., Latrobe, will offer a free advanced Dungeons & Dragons virtual program at 6 p.m. Sept. 13 online via Zoom. This is intended for experienced players who are looking for a session beyond their regular DM. Reservations required. Reservations: 724-539-1972.

Meetings

• Westmoreland Area Nurses Association will meet at 4 p.m. Sept. 11 at The Boulevard, 900 Towne Square Drive, Greensburg. No reservations required. Details: Cordie, 412-841-8529.

• South Hills Coin Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Bethel Park Municipal Building, 5100 W. Library Ave. The program will be about early dimes and half dimes. There will be a 50/50 raffle and prizes for children. Public welcome. Details: 724-984-6611.

Music

• Westmoreland County Community College will host a free concert at 7 p.m. Saturday in the college Science Hall Theater featuring a band comprised of members of the five community bands in Westmoreland County. The concert is the culmination of the band’s recent concert tour in eastern Pennsylvania.

Senior Citizen News

• Herminie Center for Active Adults will offer the free Stay Active and Independent for Life exercise class (SAIL) at 10 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the center, 101 Sewickley Ave. Details: 724-446-3282.

Special Events

• The 20th annual Green Luncheon hosted by the Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation Citizens Advisory Board will be Sept. 21 at pavilion 10 at Twin Lakes Peach Park, Georges Station Road, near Greensburg. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and a buffet lunch will be served at noon. This year’s honorees will be introduced afterward. Cost: $27. Reservations are required by Sept. 14. • The free Boomers and Beyond Lunch and Learn series at Mother of Sorrows Church, 4202 Old William Penn Highway, Murrysville, will present “Our Youth in the Judicial System” with Westmoreland Assistant District Attorney Judi Petrush Sept. 12 in the church social hall. The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the presentation starts at noon. Bring a bagged lunch. Beverages will be provided.
