Westmoreland happenings: Canine fundraiser, vacation Bible school, bingo, more

Church News

• Mt. Olive Church, 363 Pleasant Valley Road, Bullskin, will have vacation Bible school for all members of the family from 6 to 8 p.m. July 20 to 24 at the church. The theme will be, “Meet God on the Mountain.” Those attending will receive T-shirts to wear each day and crafts and snacks. There will not be a closing program.

Fundraisers

• Jeannette Knights of Columbus hosts bingo at 7 p.m. Fridays in Mersinger Hall at Ascension Church, 615 Division St. Doors open at 6 p.m. and early birds begin at 6:30 p.m. Players younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Smoke-free venue. Food will be available and there will be a 50-50 and instant bingos. Details: 724-523-9244.

• Manor Lions Club will host a chicken barbecue July 12 in the Roberts Roofing parking lot, across from the Manor American Legion, Manor-Harrison City Road, Route 993. Sales will begin at 11 a.m. and will end when food runs out. Meals include half-chicken, applesauce, roll, cookie and drink for $12. Proceeds will benefit the Lions’ charitable work. • Westmoreland Historical Society will host an antiques and collectibles market July 13 at Historic Hanna’s Town, 809 Forbes Trail Road, Hempfield. Some vendors will be set up and selling on July 12 and the rest will be open from 7:30 a.m. until early afternoon June 13. Admission: $5 per car. A portion of parking revenues benefit the Forbes Road Volunteer Fire Department. Details and space rentals: 724-836-1800 or westmorelandhistory.org.

• Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society will sponsor “Paws In the Park,” a free day of activities for dogs and their owners, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 12 at the battlefield, 1253 Bushy Run Road, Penn Township. There will be activities, food, dog-themed vendors and representatives from local animal shelters. All dogs must be on a leash. A portion of donations will given to local dog shelters.

Special events

• Norwin Elks invites all veterans and active duty personnel, including reserves and National Guard, to an indoor summer picnic from 4 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Aug. 5 at 135 Elks Lane, Manor. The event is free for veterans and thier caregivers; a $5 donation is suggested for other family mambers. Reservations due July 29 by calling PTARC offices at 724-392-4555.

Submissions from nonprofit organizations for Briefly Speaking should be emailed to cpinto-smith@triblive.com. Include a complete address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks prior to the event. Each announcement is printed once; there is no fee.
