Submissions from nonprofit organizations for Briefly Speaking can be emailed to Carol Pinto-Smith at cpinto-smith@triblive.com or mailed to Briefly Speaking, 210 Wood St., Tarentum, PA 15084. Include a complete street address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks before the event. Each announcement is printed once; there is no fee.

Classes

• YMCA Westmoreland County will offer a program, “Understanding Diversity, Equity and Inclusion,” from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 29 at the YMCA, 424 N. Main St., Greensburg. Sebastian Lacy, vice president of Equity and Culture with the Greater Pittsburgh YMCA, will be the speaker. Lunch will be served and reservations are required by March 24. Reservations: 724-834-9390.

Fundraisers

• Union Presbyterian Church, Washington Township, will have a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 24 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 25 at the church, 656 Route 380. Lunch and an early dinner will be available. Jewelry, furniture and antiques will be priced; all other items can be purchased by donation.

• A bingo bash to benefit Greensburg Hempfield Area Library and Youngwood Area Public Library will be at 1 p.m. March 26 at West Point Volunteer Fire Department, 100 Volunteer Drive, Hempfield. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and lunch will be served. Early entry and seat saving are prohibited. Cost: $30, includes lunch. Tickets: bit.ly/bingo2023GHAL.

• The 15th annual Race for Grace that supports the Reflections of Grace Foundation will be April 22 at Norwin High School, North Huntingdon. Opening activities start at 7 a.m. and the race begins at 9. Indoor activities after the race will include games, dance performances, a basket raffle, silent auction, charitable hair donations and awards ceremony. Reflections of Grace Foundation provides financial, emotional and educational support to children and their families affected by pediatric brain cancer. Details: reflectionsofgrace.org.

Health

• Excela Health will offer wellness check diagnostic screenings by appointment from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. April 1 at Greensburg Senior Life, 123 Triangle Drive. Sponsored by Greensburg Rotary. Appointments and face masks required. Registration and details: 877-771-1234, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

Meetings

• Penn Township Senior Citizens will meet March 28 at Community United Methodist Church, 3487 Route 130, Harrison City. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 2. Lunch: $6. Dues: $2. Entertainment will be country western singer Cathy Rhodes. Masks optional.

Reunions

• Hempfield High School Class of 1968 will have a reunion from 5 to 10 p.m. Aug. 26 at Ferrante’s Lakeview, Route 30, Hempfield. Details: 724-757-7806.

Religion

• Mt. Pleasant Ministerium will sponsor free lunches at noon Wednesdays through April 5 at Mt. Pleasant Church of God, 936 W. Main St. Leah Rittenhouse will be the speaker at the March 29 lunch. No reservations are required, and free parking is available.

• St. James Parish, New Alexandria, will sponsor a Lenten lecture for adults from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. March 28 at the church, 306 St. James Lane. The topic for March 28 will be, “A Closer Look at the Death of Jesus.” No reservations required. Details: 724-668-2829.

School news

• The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg will host an open house for high school students April 1. Students and their families can learn about the admission process, meet with faculty and tour the campus with a current student. Virtual visits also are available. Reservations required: greensburg.pitt.edu/admissions/visit-campus.

Special events

• A free presentation of “Rachel’s Challenge” will be from 6 to 8 p.m. March 22 in the auditorium at Greensburg Salem Middle School, 201 N. Main St., Greensburg. The program features the story of Rachel Scott, who was the first victim of the 1999 shootings at Columbine High School and is appropriate for those who are at least 12 years old. Child care will be available.

• A community Easter egg hunt is set for April 1 at Lynch Field in Greensburg. Start times for the hunt, by age bracket, are: 2 p.m. for ages 4 or younger; 2:30 p.m. for ages 5-8; and 3 p.m., for ages 9-12. Participants should bring their own bag or basket to collect eggs.
