Westmoreland happenings: Community picnic, rummage sale, band festival, more
Submissions from nonprofit organizations for Briefly Speaking can be emailed to Carol Pinto-Smith at cpinto-smith@triblive.com or mailed to Briefly Speaking, 210 Wood St., Tarentum, PA 15084. Include a complete address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks before the event. Each announcement is printed once; there is no fee.
Church news
• St. James Church, 306 St. James Lane, New Alexandria, will have an all-day Eucharistic adoration Sept. 14 for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. Mass will be celebrated at 8 a.m. and adoration will continue until Mass with Benediction at 6 p.m. A children’s Eucharistic hour will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Parents are welcome to stay with children. • Greensburg Church of the Brethren will host a community picnic from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 17 at the church, 554 Stanton St., Southwest Greensburg. There will be food, face painting, miniature golf, emergency vehicles and a dunk tank. Proceeds will be donated to Southwest Greensburg Police and Fire Department and Mutual Aid Ambulance Service of Greensburg. Details: 724-834-2130.
Fundraisers
• Bolivar Volunteer Fire Company is selling its lottery calendars for October through December. The winning number will be the 7 p.m. Pennsylvania Lottery Daily Number. Tickets: 6 p.m. Mondays at the firehall or from any member.
• Lincoln Heights Civic Association will have bingo from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 15 at the center, 42 Millersdale Road, Jeannette. There will be 20 regular games and five quickies. Cost: 25 cents for a three-card board; $1 for quickies. Payout is 50/50. Free coffee.
• Fairview Church of God will have a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 17 at the church, 2202-2206 Route 982, Mt. Pleasant Township. Lunch and baked goods will be available.
• E. C. Cruisers Car Club will have a car cruise at 1 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Delmont Firehall, 2360 Route 66, rain or shine. Registration will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Trophies will be awarded at 3:30 p.m. There will be a DJ, bake sale, food, door prizes, dash plaques and ticket auction. Cost: $10 per vehicle. • The ninth annual Ladies Day Bash sponsored by Mountain Laurel Chamber of Commerce will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Donegal Event Center, 113 Community Center Drive, Donegal Township. Doors open at noon. Cost: $20, includes three numbers for the drawings, lunch and refreshments. There will be hourly cash giveaways, instant tickets, bingo, auctions and a 50/50. Volunteers
• Ligonier Valley Historial Society is seeking volunteers to lead tours through the Compass Inn Museum and its outbuildings in Laughlintown. Meet-and-greet sessions will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29. Attend either session. Volunteers must obtain clearances for working with children.
