Christmas events
• The annual Trafford Christmas celebration will be held Dec. 6. A craft show will be from noon to 4 p.m. at the American Legion, 216 Cavitt Ave.; food vendors will be available from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Cavitt Avenue and in the Manchester Room lot, and there will be caroling at 5 p.m. in the Trafford Library parking lot. A parade will begin at 6 p.m., and the community tree lighting will be at 6:15 p.m. Photos with Santa will be available from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for children 12 and younger in the Manchester Room.
• Sparkle of Christmas, sponsored by the Jeannette Business Association and American Legion, will be held Dec. 6 in the borough. The parade will begin at 2 p.m. on Clay Avenue. Gifts from Santa will be distributed to children 12 and younger after the parade at the American Legion. There will be music, cookie and candy sales, free caricatures and crafters from noon to 5 p.m.
• Ligonier Valley Writers will host its free holiday potluck 3 to 5 p.m. Dec. 14 at St. Michael’s of the Valley Episcopal Church, 2535 Route 381, Ligonier Township. Public welcome to attend and read aloud from their own writing or enjoy holiday fare and good conversation. Bring a covered dish or dessert, optional. • Light Up Level Green will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 7 at the fire hall, Route 130. The event is free, and Santa will arrive at 6:30 p.m. Children are encouraged to bring their letter for Santa. Parents should include a return address if they would like a reply to their child’s letter. The Penn-Trafford Community Band will perform, and there will be crafts, cookies, hot chocolate and cider. Nonperishable food items will be collected. Sponsored by the Community Women’s Club of Level Green, the Level Green Lions Club and volunteer fire department.
Fundraisers
• Community Church of Hecla, 537 Hecla Road, Mt. Pleasant Township, will sponsor a cash and basket bingo at 1 p.m. Dec. 7 at the church. Doors open at noon. A light lunch will be served. Details: 724-396-8065 or 724-244-2586.
• Jeannette American Legion will host bingo at 1 p.m. Dec. 7 at the post, 109 S. Fifth St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Cost: $25 per packet, includes regular and special games. There will be a $750 jackpot game, magic number, door prizes and 50-50. The kitchen will be open. Smoke-free venue. Proceeds benefit veterans and community activities. Details: Rick, 724-600-5061.
• A Breakfast with Santa will be held 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Dec. 14 at Unity American Legion, 158 American Legion Road. Cost: $10, includes buffet breakfast and hot cocoa bar; children 12 and younger, $15; also includes a photo with Santa, treat bag and craft. Reservations required. Reservations: Ashley, 724-989-6567.
• A Christmas dance featuring Ray Jay & the Carousels will be held 2 to 6 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Yukon Slovenian Hall, 137 Yukon Ave. Doors open at 1 p.m. Cost: $17 per person. Winzek Catering will sell food. Details: Linda, 724-696-9421.
• Boy Scout Troop 284 will sell Christmas trees at the Busy Beaver in Norwin Hills Shopping Center on the following days: 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 5 and 12; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 6 and 13; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 7 and 14.
• The Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society will host its Christmas sale noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 6 at the museum, 1253 Bushy Run Road, Penn Township. Free admission. The Children’s Christmas party will be held 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at the museum. There will be caroling, crafts, the reading of “A Visit from St. Nicholas” and an appearance by Santa. • West Overton Village, 109 West Overton Road, East Huntingdon, will have its holiday makers market 10 a.m. to 3 pm. Dec. 6 and 7. There will be local vendors and food trucks. West Overton Distilling will be open and sell holiday-themed cocktails and gifts. Donations for the Westmoreland Food Bank will be accepted at the market. Those who donate will receive a “buy one, get one” admission in 2026 to the museum. No glass jars please. Details: westovertonvillage.org.
• A holiday bingo will be at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at St. Bruno Church, 1715 Poplar St., South Greensburg. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Cost: $25, includes a bag lunch, dessert, beverage and 15 games. Additional games can be purchased, and there will be a basket raffle, ticket sales and a 50-50. Proceeds will benefit the church. Details: 724-836-0690.
• A Christmas cookie sale will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out Dec. 6 at St. John United Church of Christ, 1230 Brownstown Road, Larimer. Doors open at 11 a.m., and sales will be on a first-come, first-served basis. No advance orders will be accepted. Enter through the gymnasium door at the rear of the church. Seminar
• The Laurel Highlands Workforce & Opportunity Center will offer mental health first aid training 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 13 at the center, 310 Donohoe Road, Hempfield. The skills-based course will teach adults how to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health or substance use challenges.
