Westmoreland happenings: cookie sale, light up night and festival of lights
Fundraisers
• St. John United Church of Christ, 1320 Brownstown Road, Larimer, North Huntingdon, is accepting orders for a cookie sale. Varieties: raspberry almond shortbread, snickerdoodles, nut horns, peanut butter blossom kiss, thumbprints, tassie nut cups, peanut butter cup, lemon cookie bar and seven layer, $5 per dozen. Holiday events
• West Newton First United Methodist Church, 106 N. Second St., will sponsor a Christmas event from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 27 in the church social room. There will be a miniature Nativity display, a sweet shop and a sing-along at 7 p.m. with the Carol Praise Team. Donate a package of socks for veterans or make a cash donation and get a chance to win a Christmas gift basket.
• The annual Miracle on Main Street light up night festival sponsored by Downtown West Newton Inc. will be from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 27. The theme will be, “Charlie Brown Christmas.” There will be a craft and vendor show at 3 p.m. in West Newton Presbyterian Church social hall and West Newton Senior Center. A parade will begin at 5:15 p.m. on Main Street, and the Christmas tree lighting with Santa Claus will be afterward. Details: visit Downtown West Newton Inc. on Facebook.
• A free outdoor holiday celebration will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 27 at Alison Biondi Gymnastics and Biondi Biscotti, 4066 Route 130, Penn Township. There will be music, a bonfire, food and children’s crafts. Bring an ornament for the tree. Donations will be accepted for Toys for Tots.
• The Braddock Trail Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host its annual Festival of Lights Nov. 27 and 28 and Dec. 2 to 5 at the chapter house, 200 S. Church St., Mt. Pleasant. Hours: 1:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 27 and 28, Dec. 3 and 4; 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 2; and noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 5. There will be tours, displays, door prize drawings and refreshments. Admission: $5; younger than 12, free. Proceeds will benefit the DAR Renovation Project.
• Hempfield Parks and Recreation Department will host Santa in the Park from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 3 in the township park pavilion F, 220 Forbes Trail Road. Enjoy a cup of cocoa, treats and a visit with Santa. Reservations required. Reservations: hempfieldtwp.com/parks.
Meetings
• Women Supporting Women will meet from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 27 at Temple of Praise Fellowship Hall, 302 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Greensburg. Women are welcome to learn how faith can change their lives.
