Westmoreland happenings: craft show, photos with Santa and children's Christmas celebration
Christmas events
• Light Up Night in New Alexandria will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday . There will be cookies, hot chocolate, Christmas caroling and a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus on a fire truck. Sponsored by the New Alexandria Activities Committee.
• Christmas on Depot Street in Youngwood will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday . There will be a pet adoption event, a bake sale, Christmas toy drive and a visit by Santa. Stores will be open extended hours.
• A holiday craft and vendor show will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Hempfield Athletic Complex, 220 Forbes Trail Road.
• West Newton Public Library will host a free children’s classic Christmas celebration from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the LeGrande Ballroom, Second Street. There will be lunch, treats, crafts and the screening of some classic holiday films. Reservations required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations: Gary’s Chuckwagon, 724-872-8920.
Fundraisers
• Lincoln Heights Civic Association will host bingo from 1 to 3 p.m. Thurday and Dec. 16 at the center, 42 Millersdale Road, Hempfield. There will be 20 regular games. Cost: 25 cents for a three-card board. Payout is 50/50. Free coffee.
• Greensburg Garden Center will have its annual Christmas sale from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the center, 951 Old Salem Road. Items available will include wreaths, tabletop trees, centerpieces, swags, hanging baskets, kissing balls, pine roping and small hostess and thank you gifts. Advance orders for live greens welcome. • A Pictures with Santa event will be from 12:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Dogs By Design, 227 Main St., Irwin. Donations will be accepted to benefit As They Come Animal Rescue, merchandise will be available, there will be animals available for adoption on site and food from Salsa Sam’s food truck.
• Jeannette American Legion will host a super bingo at 1 p.m. Sunday at the post, 109 S. Fifth St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Cost: $20 per packet. Full extra packet and specials available and $750 must-go jackpot. The kitchen will be open. Details: 724-600-5061.
Health
• Come, Talk Inc., a free resource center for those effected by suicide, will host a Gamer Meet-Up event Saturday at the center, 321 Main St., in the offices of Norwin Chamber of Commerce. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and the event will begin at 1 p.m. The event is open to those age 12 and older. Gamer Meet-ups will be held monthly and a different game will be featured each month. • Mt. Pleasant American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 6 p.m. Dec. 7 at the post, 752 W. Main St., Mt. Pleasant, for the annual Christmas dinner. Please bring ticket money and stubs.
• Super Seniors of Westmoreland County will meet at noon Dec. 7 at Community United Methodist Church, 3487 Route 130, Harrison City. Isaac Meyers will entertain and there will be carol singing. • Westmoreland County Area on Aging will host a caregiver support group meeting from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 8 at the McKenna Center for Active Adults, 971 Old Salem Road, Hempfield. Local chapters of the Women’s Business Network have scheduled meetings. Those attending can learn how the group supports the success and growth of women in business.
