Fundraisers

• St. John United Church of Christ, 1230 Brownstown Road, Larimer, will have a Dog Days of Summer hot dog sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 16 at the church. Combo meals and drinks will be available. Proceeds will be donated to Chad Warhold and Laurie Kiss, who lost their home in a fire Aug. 4 and whose daughter was seriously injured. Details: Lil, 724-493-8982.

• Norvelt Volunteer Fire Department will host its sixth annual Parking Lot Bash and car cruise from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 16 at the fire hall, 2325 Mt. Pleasant Road, Mt. Pleasant Township. Rain date: Aug. 17. There will be prizes giveaways, and food, beer, alcohol slushies and pop available. Bring a chair. No outside food or drinks permitted. Free admission. Vehicle entry fee by donation.

History

• Baltzer Meyer Historical Society will host Ancestry Day from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at Harrold Hall, 642 Baltzer Meyer Pike, Hempfield. Free research will be offered during August. There will be a lecture, slide show, basket raffle and tours of the society building and Harrold School No. 8. Donations will be accepted. A food truck will be available, cash only.

Meeting

• Retirees and former employees of Commercial Bank and Trust of Pennsylvania will meet for lunch at noon Aug. 20 at Aroma Italiano, 2220 Ligonier St., Latrobe. Reservations required. Reservations: Mary Ann, 724-537-7894.

Special event

• Greensburg Salem School District will host a free back-to-school bash from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 18 at Offutt Field, 302 S. Urania Ave., Greensburg. There will be music, entertainment, food trucks, concessions, children’s activities and community resources. Wear brown, white and gold to show school spirit. Fall sports teams will be recognized and booster organizations will sell spirit wear. A cornhole tournament will benefit Greensburg Salem Mini-THON. Submissions from nonprofit organizations for Briefly Speaking should be emailed to cpinto-smith@triblive.com. Include a complete address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks prior to the event. Each announcement is printed once; there is no fee.
