Westmoreland happenings: Dog Halloween party, pierogi sale, comedy night, more

Include a complete address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks before the event. Each announcement is printed once; there is no fee.
Fundraisers
• St. Stephen Byzantine Catholic Church, North Huntingdon, will sell homemade potato and cheese pierogi at 10 a.m. Oct. 28 at the church, 90 Bethel Road. Cost: $12 per dozen, cash and checks only. Details: 412-627-1678.
• An auction to benefit the outreach program for Heritage United Methodist Church on the Diamond in Ligonier will begin at 9 a.m. Oct. 29 at Wicklow Logistics, the former New Derry Elementary School, 314 E. Pittsburgh St., Derry. Doors open at 8 a.m. Lunch will be available.
• Visitation Parish, Mt. Pleasant, will sponsor a homemade Italian dinner from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Visitation Community Center, Walnut Street. Menu: cavatelli or spaghetti, or half portion of each, meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and beverages. Dine in or takeout. Cost: $15; age 4 to 12, $7.50; 3 and younger, free.
• Walker’s Pet HoTail Pet Care Center will host their annual Howl-O-Ween parties for dogs and their owners at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at the 4603 William Penn Highway, Murrysville location; and at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at 1751 Lincoln Highway, North Versailles site. There will be a costume contest, games and a basket raffle. Fall pet photos will be available for $5 each with proceeds to benefit local animal shelters. Cash only. All pets must be on a leash. Proof of rabies, distemper and Bordetella vaccines and negative fecal required. Records must be brought in or faxed in advance. Reservations required. Reservations: 724-327-7297.
• St. Barbara Parish, Harrison City, will host a super bingo at 2 p.m. Oct. 30 at the church, 111 Raymaley Road. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Advance tickets: $50; at the door if available, $55, includes lunch and dauber. Tickets: 724-744-4584 or 724-744-7474.
• A comedy night to benefit the Coal and Coke Trail Chapter will be Nov. 5 at the Scottdale Fireman’s Club, 405 Porter Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m. Cost: $35, includes buffet dinner. There will be a basket auction, 50/50 raffle and cash bar. The show is recommended for those who are at least 21. Tickets: Brilhart Hardware, the Filling Station, Scottdale Distributing and Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation office, or by calling 724-221-4229. No tickets will be sold at the door. Proceeds benefit maintenance of the Coal and Coke Trail.
Meetings
• South Hills Coin Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Bethel Park Municipal Building, 5100 W. Library Ave. The program will be about certifying coins. There will be a 50/50 raffle and prizes for children. Public welcome. Membership applications are being accepted. Details: 724-984-6611.
• The Botanical Society of Westmoreland County is reorganizing after a two-year hiatus. The group will meet at 6 p.m. Nov. 2 in the red Conservation Barn, 218 Donohoe Road, Hempfield. Lindsey Praksti will discuss, “The Underground: Autumn Roots.” Past members and anyone who is interested in the study of local plants is welcome. Refreshments will be served. Annual dues: $10 per individual; $15 per family.
Music
• Unity Township American Legion will feature local musician Chris Dougherty from 7 to 10 p.m. at the post, 158 American Legion Road. Public welcome. Smoke-free venue. Details: 724-423-9284.
