Westmoreland happenings: Fishing derby, spaghetti dinner, meetings, more

Include a complete street address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks before the event. Each announcement is printed once; there is no fee.
Church news
• St. James Church, New Alexandria, will have all-day Eucharistic Adoration April 25 for the Feast of St. Mark. Mass will be celebrated at 8 a.m. and adoration will continue afterward until benediction at 6 p.m. Drop in anytime during the day. Details: 724-668-2829.
Fundraisers
• Lincoln Heights Civic Association will have bingo from 1 to 3 p.m. April 20 at the center, 42 Millersdale Road, Jeannette. There will be 20 regular games and five quickies. Cost: 25 cents for a three-card board; $1 for quickies. Payout is 50/50. Free coffee.
• A spaghetti dinner will be from 4 to 7 p.m. April 20 at First United Church of Christ, 400 Main St., Irwin. Cost: $10; children younger than 12, $5.
• First United Church of Christ, Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, will have a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 22 at the church. Debit and credit cards accepted. A $5 bag sale will be from noon to 1 p.m.; bags will be provided.
• Luxor Methodist Church, 187 White Church Road, Hempfield, will have an auction beginning at 9 a.m. April 22 at the church. Items will include small furniture, small appliances, puzzles, pictures, holiday decorations and miscellaneous household items. Details: 724-832-3450.
• A pork and sauerkraut dinner will be from 4 to 7 p.m. April 22 at St. John United Church of Christ, 1230 Brownstown Road, Larimer. • Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church will sell takeout chicken and biscuit dinners from 4 to 7 p.m. April 22 at the Cook Township Community Center, Route 711, Stahlstown. Menu: biscuits, chicken and gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce and chocolate/white cake. Cost: $8; children, $5.
• Christ United Methodist Church, 2800 Coulterville Road, North Huntingdon, will have a roast beef dinner from 4 to 6:30 p.m. April 22 at the church. Cost: $12; children, $5, includes beverage and dessert.
• The Holy Name Society of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant, will host an all-you-can-eat omelet breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon April 23 in the church social hall, Summit Street. There will also be a 50/50. Cost: $10; age 3 to 12, $3; younger than 3, free.

• Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital will sponsor a Spring into Bingo fundraiser April 30 at Youngwood Firehall, 104 S. Second Ave. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and lunch will be served until games begin at 1 p.m. Cost: $25. Extra packets will be sold and there will be a $1,500 jackpot game, basket raffle and 50/50. • The Great Green Plant Swap will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 6 at West Newton Gymnasium, 113 S. Fifth St. Bring your extra plants and exchange with others. Scholarship
• Greensburg Business and Professional Women’s Club is accepting applications for its scholarship program from students in high school, college, trade or technical school who live in zip codes 15601, 15642, 15672 and 15697. Three to five awards starting at $2,000 for the fall semester will be given out on May 10 and are sent directly to the school. Students in master’s and doctoral programs are not eligible. Sports
• The Adroit Run Club will meet at 8 a.m. April 22 at the Westmoreland Heritage Trailhead at Duff Park, 4500 School Road, Murrysville. Anyone with an interest in walking or running of all skill levels is welcome.
• A free fishing derby for all ages will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 23 at Mammoth Park, Mt. Pleasant Township. Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. at pavilion 12. Anglers 16 and older must display a valid 2023 Pennsylvania fishing license. All youth participants registered by noon will be entered into a drawing for prizes from Dick’s Sporting Goods. First and second place trophies and merchandise will be awarded for longest trout, longest carp and longest other fish of legal size in adult and youth categories. The event is sponsored by the Westmoreland County Bureau of Parks and Recreation, the Westmoreland County Sportsmen’s League and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Details: 724-830-3950.
Special events
• Westmoreland Woodlands Improvement Association will sponsor a field trip May 6 to Forbes State Forest near Powder Mill Reserve to visit a wild population of wild ramps. Rain or shine. Ramps are a spring herb. Professors Sara Nilson and Eric Burkhart of the Penn State Department of Ecosystem Science and Management will lead the trek and gather specimens for research purposes. Meet at the Bureau of Forestry district office, 1291 Route 30, Laughlintown. The carpool to the site will leave at 1 p.m. Reservations required by calling 724-837-5271 by 3:30 p.m. April 21, leave your name and number of people attending. • Greensburg YMCA will host the last free Family Fun Night of the season from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 21 at the center gymnasium, 101 S.
