Church News
• Charter Oak Church, 100 S. Second St., Jeannette, will have a free vacation Bible school, “True North: Trusting Jesus in a Wild World,” from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. June 23 to 26 at the church for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Flag Day
• Norwin Elks will host a Flag Day observation at 10:30 a.m. June 14 at the lodge, 135 Elks Lane. Members of Cub Scout Pack 253 will display historic flags and the Penn-Trafford Community Band will play patriotic selections. All veterans and active-duty military members are welcome to participate in a military salute to our department servicemen and women. Public welcome. Details: Don Rohac, 412-260-8064.
Father’s Day event
• A free Father’s Day Fishing Derby will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 15 at Twin Lakes Park. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at the boathouse on the lower lake. Contestants must be registered by noon to be eligible for a trophy or prize. First and second prize trophies and merchandise will be awarded for the longest trout, longest carp and longest other fish of legal size in both adult and youth categories. Fishermen 16 and older must display a valid 2025 Pa. Fishing License. The event is sponsored by the Westmoreland County Bureau of Parks and Recreation, the Westmoreland County Sportsmen’s League and Somerset Trust Company. Fundraisers
• Trinity United Church of Christ, 139 N. Main St., Greensburg, will have a strawberry festival from 3 to 6 p.m. June 14 in the church fellowship hall. Menu: ham barbecue, potato salad, baked beans, strawberries, ice cream and cake. There will be a basket raffle and 50-50.
• Jeannette Knights of Columbus hosts bingo at 7 p.m. Fridays in Mersinger Hall at Ascension Church, 615 Division St., Jeannette. Doors open at 6 p.m. and early birds begin at 6:30 p.m. Players younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Smoke-free venue. Food will be available and there will be a 50-50 and instant bingos. Health
• An American Red Cross Blood community blood drive will be from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 24 in commissioners meeting room at the Westmoreland County Courthouse, Greensburg. Appointments recommended, but walk-ins are welcome. Appointments: 800-733-2767 or visit redcrossblood.org.
History
• Baltzer Meyer Historical Society will sponsor a program about Andersonville Prison from 1 to 3 p.m. June 15 at Harrold Hall, 642 Baltzer Meyer Pike, Greensburg. Civil War historian Ken Williams will be the speaker.
Meeting
• Westmoreland Area Nurses Association will have its annual scholarship and reunion dinner June 21 at Ferrante’s Lakeview, 6153 Route 30, Greensburg. A cash bar will be from 5:30 until dinner is served at 6 p.m. Reservations required by Friday. Reservations and menu information: Cordie, 412-841-8529.
