Church News

• St. James Parish, New Alexandria, will sponsor a seminar series “Living as Healthy Disciples” over the winter at the church, 306 St. James Lane. The first session will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 21 in the church social hall. Robert R. Baum Jr., director of counseling services for the Catholic Diocese of Greensburg, will discuss “Supporting Ourselves and Others: Mental Health Awareness.” Details: 724-668-2829.

Fundraisers

• Greensburg Coin Club will hold a coin show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 19 at Circleville Firehall, 129 Robbins Station Road, North Huntingdon.

• West Newton Little House Association will sponsor a takeout stuffed pork chop dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 18 at Gary’s Chuckwagon Restaurant, 109 S. Second St. Menu: stuffed pork chop, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, coleslaw, roll, butter and dessert, $20. Tickets: 724-872-7937..

• The Christian Mothers and Ladies of Seven Dolors Parish, Yukon, will sponsor their annual poultry bingo and pie social Nov. 19 in the church social hall, 102 Center St. Doors open at noon and bingo will begin at 1 p.m. Food will be available and there will be a basket raffle and 50-50. Cost: $10, includes one board, pie and coffee; extra boards, $1.

• A soup and sandwich sale will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 18 at Greensburg Church of the Brethren, 554 Stanton St. Menu: hot sausage, hot dogs and hamburgers. Quarts of soup, $7. Proceeds will help to feed the hungry.

• A pancake breakfast will be from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Nov. 18 at the Greensburg Masons, 349 Donohoe Road, Hempfield. Menu: pancakes, waffles, sausage, fruit cup, juice and coffee. Cost: $10; children 5 to 11, $5.

• Jeannette Knights of Columbus hosts bingo at 7 p.m. Fridays in Mersinger Hall at Ascension Church, 615 Division St. Doors open at 6 p.m. and early birds begin at 6:30 p.m. Players younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Food will be available. Details: 724-523-9244.

• The Latrobe Area Hospital Aid Society Lights of Love holiday celebration will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12 in the Robindale Auditorium, 1501 Ligonier St., Latrobe. Each light represents a gift in honor or memory of someone special. Suggested minimum donation is $8. There will be holiday music, a ceremony of remembrance and honor, the tree lighting and light refreshments. Gifts will be accepted through the end of the year. • Greensburg College Club will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, 951 Old Salem Road, Hempfield. Author Klaudyna Grudowski, author of “Force Field” will discuss her experience growing up in Communist Poland. Public welcome.

Volunteers needed

• AARP Foundation is seeking volunteers for its Tax-Aide program in Westmoreland County. Positions to be filled include tax return preparers, client facilitators who help organize tax documents and appointment schedulers. No experience is required. Training will be Dec. 11 to 15 at Westmoreland County Community College in New Kensington and in January at the Youngwood campus of WCCC.
