Church News
• First Presbyterian Church of Irwin, 617 Main St., will host a free meal for veterans at 3 p.m. July 15 in the church social hall. Menu: Italian roast beef, vegetable, dessert and beverage. Reservations required by July 5: 724-863-5910, ext. 113.
• Union Presbyterian Church, 656 Route 380, Washington Township, will have vacation Bible school “Stompers and Chompers” from 5:30 to 8:15 p.m. July 16 to 19 for children age 4 to 12 at the church. Kid-friendly meals will be served. Reservations: 724-337-3042.
Classes
• The In Your Write Mind Workshop for aspiring writers will be July 13 through 16 online. Thirty live sessions and 50 recorded sessions are scheduled in a broad range of topics. Cost: $60, includes all sessions. The workshop was formerly affiliated with Seton Hill University and is now managed and directed by alumni of the master’s of fine arts in writing popular fiction program. Fundraisers
• E C Cruisers Car Club will host a car cruise from 5 to 9 p.m. June 30 at Bruster’s Real Ice Cream and Poulich’s Pit BBQ, 604 S. Center Ave., New Stanton. Rain or shine. Vehicle registration: $5. • The annual Five Star Trail Poker Run will be July 15 starting at Lynch Field, Greensburg. Check-in will be at 8 a.m. and the event starts at 9 a.m. Cost: $25 in advance; $30 on event day. Participants can choose a four-mile walk or a 12-mile bike ride or adjust the distance according to their needs. Afterward there will be a door prize giveaway, light refreshments, a T-shirt display and 50/50 raffle. Sponsorship opportunities are available. • The Braddock Trail Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will host a basket bazaar July 15 at Kecksburg Volunteer Fire Hall, 5128 Water St. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. and drawings will begin at 1:30 p.m. Children 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Cost: $15, includes 25 basket raffle tickets, a door prize chance and refreshments. There will be a 50/50 raffle and separate high-end raffle baskets. Must be present to win. • Latrobe Area Hospital Aid Society will host a golf outing Aug. 19 at Glengarry Golf Links, 168 Lentz Road, Unity. • A Seniors For Safe Driving course will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 25 at Connect 55+, 4000 Village Drive, Penn Township. The class is PennDOT approved and for drivers who are at least 55 years old. Those who complete the course can qualify for reduced auto insurance premiums. There is no behind-the-wheel driving.
