• The E C Cruisers Car Club will host a car cruise in conjunction with the Bovard Volunteer Fire Department Burger Bash from 5 to 9 p.m. June 11 at the fire hall, 2 Washington St., Bovard, Hempfield. Rain or shine. Registration: $5. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit Foundation. Cruise sponsor is Hartman Insurance of Greensburg. • The Jerry Nedley Memorial Chicken Barbecue for Pediatric Cancer sponsored by the Manor Lions Club will start at 11 a.m. June 12 in the parking lot of Robert’s Roofing, Route 993, Manor. Menu: half chicken, applesauce, roll, cookie and drink, $8. Proceeds will be donated toward welcome bags for patients and their parents at the oncology ward at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Donations will be collected of only following items: Uno cards, playing cards, packs of Play-Doh, plain lip balm, socks, reusable water bottles, kid’s toothpaste and wrapped hard candy, and gift cards for Spotify, Starbucks, Uber and gasoline. • A fine jewelry and book sale will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 12 at West Newton Library, 124 N. Water St. Fine jewelry will be sold at a 25% discount and other jewelry at 50% off. All jewelry has been cleaned and polished. Fill a bag with hardcover, paperback, nonfiction, audio and children’s books and DVDs. Cost: $5 for an Aldi’s bag; $10 for your own cloth bag. Books were quarantined and wiped with Clorox wipes. Lions will sell brooms and garbage bags. Masks and social distancing required.
• Latrobe Area Hospital Aid Society will hold a shoe drive June 14 through Aug. 13. The society will earn funds from Funds2Org based on the total weight of pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected. Collection boxes will be in the main lobbies of Excela Health Latrobe Area Hospital and Excela Square at Latrobe.
• West Newton Library is conducting a silent auction for the book, “Waiting for Jacob: A Civil War Story,” by Edwin P. Hogan. Minimum bid is $30. Bids should be mailed to the library, P.O. Box 221, West Newton, PA 15089, with name, address, telephone number and email. Bids will be opened June 30.
• The Youngwood community yard sale will be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 12. Traffic along Route 119 may be one lane in some areas.
Meeting
• The Braddock Trail chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at noon June 12 at the Chapter House. Reservations required: Debra Newill, 412-554-5616
Music
• Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce will host a free concert at 7 p.m. June 13 in the gazebo at the Diamond. The featured group will be the Swing City Band. In case of inclement weather, an announcement will be made by 5 p.m. to move the concert into Town Hall or to cancel. Check Visit Ligonier on Facebook.
