• Orders are being taken through Monday for soups to be picked up Jan. 19 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 101 N. Fourth St., Youngwood. Choice of soups: vegetable beef, chicken noodle, and bean with ham. Cost: $5 quart. Orders: 724-837-1647.
• Bingo, with early bird, 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Holy Family Parish, 225 N. Second St., West Newton. Admission: $15. Kitchen will be open.

Classes/programs
Free children programs at Manor Public Library, Main Street:
— Tuesday Tales, for age 2 and younger, 10:30 a.m., through Feb. 12.
— Tuesday Tales, ages 3 and older, 1 p.m.
— Bright Builders group, open to students in kindergarten-sixth grade, 6:30 p.m. Thursday for “LEGO Winter Landscapes.” Space is limited, so registration is required.
— Crafts geared toward age 2 and older will be featured in a Winter Crafter, 2-4 p.m. Jan. 19.

• McKenna Center for Active Adults, 971 Old Salem Road, Greensburg:

• New cult classics series is planned 6 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Pleasant Public Library, 120 S. Church St. First movie to be reviewed will be “The Forbidden Planet” and how it influenced Star Trek. It is geared for people 17 and older. Register: 724-547-3850.
• Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc., and the local Workforce Investment Board is offering paid training programs. The Healthcare Internship Program is open to students ages 16-18 to help earn certification in AIDET Customer Service Training, OSHA Blood Borne Pathogens and Personal Protective Equipment and ServSafe. The program pays $7.25 an hour for class time and $9 per hour for paid work experience up to 300 hours in the healthcare field. Applications are due by Jan. 15. The Experience Works Program helps participants ages 16-24 find work close to home or in a career-related field of interest. It pays $9 an hour up to 300 hours. The Private Industry Council also has other programs for people 18 and older, such as its Pre-Apprenticeship Programming that involves heavy equipment and welding training, and a Dad’s Matter Program. • Free adult education classes are being offered at Jeannette Public Library and other county locations. Classes include updating skills in reading, writing and math to prepare for high school equivalency exams, post secondary entrance exams and jobs. Classes are ongoing but an orientation session, held at Career Link in Youngwood, is required before starting. Next orientation will be Jan. 18. Details: 724-755-2330, ext. 133.
