Halloween events

• Compass Inn Museum will host its annual Halloween Hauntings and pumpkin carving contest from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 29 through 31 at the inn, 1386 Route 30, Laughlintown, Ligonier Township. There will be tours and information about those who lived, worked and stopped at the 19th-century inn. Tours that begin from 6 to 7:30 p.m. will be geared for families with children and those at 7:30 to 9 p.m., with the last tour leaving at 8:30 p.m., will be designed for mature audiences. • Walker’s Pet HoTail will host its 15th annual Howl-O-Ween celebration at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Murrysville location, 4603 Old William Penn Highway. There will be a costume contest, fall photos, a basket raffle and vendors. Photo fee: $5, benefits local animal shelters, cash only. Meetings

• Greensburg College Club will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, 51 Old Salem Road. Guest speaker Steve Milaly will discuss, “Pennsylvania Goes to the Polls” and share his presidential campaign artifacts. Public welcome.

Special events

• Penn-Trafford High School Marching Band will host the Tournament of Bands Region 8 Championships at 4 p.m. Oct. 23 at the high school. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. There will be concessions, candy-grams, a basket raffle and 50/50 to benefit the band. High school bands competing include Ligonier Valley, North Catholic, Steel Valley, Seton LaSalle, Serra Catholic, Eisenhower, Youngsville, McGuffey, McKeesport Area, East Allegheny, Connellsville and Penn-Trafford and Slippery Rock University. Admission: $12; students and senior citizens, $8
