• Union Presbyterian Church, Washington Township, will have a Christmas Eve candlelight communion service at 7 p.m. Friday at the church, 656 Route 380.

• Christmas Eve services for Penn-Zion Lutheran Church and Brush Creek Lutheran Church Cooperative Ministry will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Penn Lutheran Church, Harrison Avenue, Penn Township; at 7 p.m. at Brush Creek Lutheran Church, 177 Brush Creek Road, Irwin; and at 9 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 3417 Route 130, Penn Township. Special events

• Laurelville Retreat Center will host a free First Day Hike and Run from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 1 beginning at the Coal & Coke Trailhead in Mt. Pleasant. Friends, family and pets on a leash can hike or run out and back as far as you like on the five-mile trail. Park at the trailhead, 23 W. Main St. and check in at Snyder Strength & Conditioning across the street. Co-sponsored by Snyder Strenth & Conditioning, the Coal & Coke Trail and the Regional Trail Corp.
