Church news

• St. James Church, New Alexandria, will offer a Lenten Young Adult and Adult Education Formation series from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through March 29 in the church social hall, 306 St. James Lane. Fundraisers

• Lincoln Heights Civic Association will host bingo from 1 to 3 p.m. March 3 and 17 at the center, 42 Millersdale Road, Jeannette. There will be 20 regular games and five quickies. Cost: 25 cents for a three-card bingo board and $1 for quickies. Payout is 50/50. Free coffee.

• St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, 901 Hartman St., McKeesport, will have a takeout fish fry from 2 to 6 p.m. Fridays in March at the church. Menu: fried or baked fish sandwich, $12; Serbian coleslaw, fries, haluski, macaroni and cheese, Spanish rice, palachinka, apple strudel and more. Advance orders or walk-ins accepted. • A takeout soup sale will be from 11 a.m. until sold out March 19 at St. James Lutheran Church, 4329 Route 985, Youngstown. Varieties: broccoli and cheese, cheesy potato, chicken noodle, chili, ham pot pie, minestrone, stuffed pepper, vegetable beef, vegetarian barley and wedding, $8 per quart. Limit 6 quarts per order. • A pork and sauerkraut dinner will be from 4 to 7 p.m. March 19 St. John United Church of Christ, 1230 Brownstown Road, Larimer. Menu: pork, sauerkraut, kielbasa, hot dogs, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, bread and butter, dessert and beverage. Cost: $12; 6 and younger, $6. • A spring breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to noon March 20 at St. James Church, 306 St. James Lane, New Alexandria. Menu: ham, sausage, pancakes, eggs, potatoes, juice, coffee and tea. Cost: $10; 6 to 12, $5; younger and 6, free. Hosted by the church Holy Name and Rosary Altar societies, there will be a bake sale and basket raffle.

• The Presbyterian Women will sponsor a spaghetti dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 20 in the fellowship hall of Level Green Presbyterian Church, 105 Olive Drive, Trafford. Menu: spaghetti, homemade meatballs, salad, Italian bread, beverage and dessert. Cost: $8; 3 to 10, $4; 2 and younger, free. Dine in or takeout. Tickets: in the church office or at the door. • Mt. Pleasant Township Lions Club and Norvelt Volunteer Fire Department will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 20 at the Roosevelt Hall, Norvelt. Menu: pancakes, Belgian waffles with strawberries and whipped cream, sausage and breakfast beverages. Cost: $6; 6 to 12, $3, younger than 6, free.

• The 11th annual “Walk a Mile in Their Her His Our Shoes” event to end gender-based violence will be at 10 a.m. April 23 in St. Clair Park, Greensburg. Many male walkers will wear high heels to take an extra step in understanding what women experience every day. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. Cost: $5, younger than 12, free. • A gala evening to benefit Central Westmoreland Habitat for Humanity will be April 2 at Stratigo’s Banquet Centre, 131 Colonial Manor Road, North Huntingdon. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., a cocktail hour will begin at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. There will be three grand prizes, auctions and dancing. Admission: $100. • Excela Health will offer wellness check diagnostic screenings from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. March 26 at Westmoreland County Community College, 6707 Mellon Road, Export. Sponsored by Delmont-Salem Rotary. Meetings

• The Greensburg-Jeannette NAACP Human Rights Banquet will be April 2 at Greensburg Country Club, 309 Pleasant Valley Road, Jeannette. Networking will begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be at 6. Margaret Powers, a history professor at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, will be the guest speaker. Cost: $50; 10 and younger, $20. Ticket deadline is March 23.
