Church news
• The First Thursday worship service and luncheon will resume Thursday, Sept. 4, at Zion’s Lutheran Church, 140 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Greensburg. Worship will be at noon and lunch will be at 12:30 p.m. in the social room. Cost: $5.
Festival
• The Trafford Oktoberfest will be held noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, in Trafford B-Y Park, 785 Seventh St. There will be craft and business vendors from noon to 5 p.m., food, drinks, a cornhole competition and stein-holding competition. The Heritage Band will perform from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and the Polkameisters will perform from 5 to 7 p.m. Details: traffordoktoberfest@gmail.com.
Fundraisers
• Lincoln Heights Civic Association will have bingo 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at the center, 42 Millersdale Road, Hempfield. There will be 20 regular games and five quickies. Payout is 50-50. Free coffee. Cost: 25 cents for a three-card board; $1 for quickies.
• A dine-to-donate fundraiser to benefit Mon Valley Paws will continue through Sept. 30 at Felicia’s Restaurant, 450 Schoonmaker Ave., Monessen. Menu: spaghetti, salad, bread, meatball and drink. The restaurant is closed Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Tickets: Randy, 724-493-8305.
• St. Bartholomew Church will have its monthly Las Vegas bingo Friday, Sept. 5, in the church Marian Hall, 2538 Route 119, Crabtree. Doors open at 5 p.m. and early birds start at 6:30 p.m. Admission: $35, includes specials with over $8,000 in prizes. Food will be sold by Super Dawgs.
• Mon Valley Paws will sponsor its annual Paws in the Park vendor show 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, in Monessen City Park, 1918 Grand Blvd. There will be gift bags for the first 100 registered pets, yoga, pet photos, a pet contest and blessing of the animals. Bring a pet food donation for a chance to win a $50 Pet Supply Plus gift card. Shuttle transportation will be available every 15 minutes from Monessen High School. • The Lamp Theater, 222 Main St., Irwin, will present GI Canteen For A Day from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 21 commemorating the 80th anniversary of V-J Day. An opening ceremony will be at 1 p.m. and there will be military displays, a mobile veterans center and World War II newsreels will be shown. Gary Pratt and the Pratt Szallar Band will perform a veterans tribute concert at 7 p.m. Concert tickets: $25; veterans, $20. Proceeds will be donated to Operation Veterans Now, and Irwin American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
• Jeannette American Legion will host bingo at 1 p.m. Sept. 7 at the post, 109 S. Fifth St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Cost: $25 per packet, includes regular and special games. There will be a $750 jackpot game, magic number, door prizes and 50-50. The kitchen will be open. Smoke-free venue. Proceeds benefit veterans and community activities. Details: Rick, 724-600-5061.

• Mt. Pleasant American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the post, 752 W. Main St. Members should order dinner from the post.
Senior citizen news
• A Seniors for Safe Driving class will be offered from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at Redstone Highlands, 12921 Lincoln Highway, North Huntingdon. The class is PennDOT approved and for drivers who are at least 55 years old. Safe drivers can receive a 5% discount on auto insurance for three years. Cost: $17.
