Westmoreland happenings: Oktoberfests, Rosary rallies, burger bash, more

Art

The auxiliary Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Ligonier Valley will host a sweater pumpkin-making party from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 22 at the museum, 1 Boucher Lane, Ligonier Township. Church news

• Greensburg Church of the Brethren, 443 Stanton St., Greensburg, will have a revival at 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at the church. Shelli Prindle from Hope & Passion Ministry will be the speaker.

• Paradise United Methodist Church, 105 Hoke Road, Bullskin Township, will have a Bundle-up Blessings Day from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 15 in the church fellowship hall. Anyone in need is welcome to select one coat or other item of warmth at no cost while supplies last. Non-perishable food items will be collected for the church food pantry. • St. James Church, New Alexandria, will have all-day Eucharistic Adoration Oct. 18 for the Feast of St. Luke the Evangelist. Mass will be celebrated at 8 a.m. and adoration will continue until Benediction at 6 p.m. A children’s Eucharistic hour will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Parents are welcome to stay with children. Fundraisers

• Westmoreland County Blind Association will host a bingo at 1 p.m. Oct. 15 at West Point Firehall, 100 Volunteer Drive, Greensburg. Doors open at 11:45 a.m. and lunch will be at noon. Cost: $25, includes dauber and a boxed lunch. Extra packages will be available and there will be a basket raffle, strip tickets, door prizes and a 50/50. • Jeannette Community Band will perform a free cabaret-style concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Jeannette American Legion, 109 S. Fifth St. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Those attending will be seated in a supper club arrangement and food and drinks will be available. The concert will feature solo and small ensemble performances, as well as full band pieces. There will be a basket auction and 50/50 to benefit the Carl Masciantonio Memorial Music Fund.

• The Altar Society of St. John Byzantine Catholic Church, 525 Porter Ave., Scottdale, will host a spaghetti dinner and basket raffle from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 16 at the church. Menu: spaghetti, meatballs, salad, roll, dessert and beverage. Dine in or takeout. Cost: $10; 12 and younger, $5.

• The Holy Name and Rosary Altar societies at St. James Church, New Alexandria will sponsor a breakfast and basket raffle from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 16 at the church, 306 St. James Lane. Volunteers

• AARP is seeking volunteers for its Tax-Aide program that provides free preparation help to anyone with a focus on taxpayers who are over 50 and have low-to-moderate income. Volunteers are needed at sites in North Huntingdon, Trafford, Penn Township, Murrysville and Delmont. Positions include tax return preparers, client facilitators and appointment schedulers.
