Westmoreland happenings: 'Pale Blue Eye' author joins historical society meeting via Zoom

Include a complete address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks before the event. Each announcement is printed once; there is no fee.
Church news
• Greensburg Church of the Brethren, 554 Stanton St., will distribute free food boxes from 8 to 11 a.m. Feb. 18 via a drive-thru on the parking lot side of the church. Come early; supplies are limited to 250 boxes. Details: 724-834-2130 or gbgcob.org.
• Westminster Presbyterian Church, Greensburg, will have fellowship at 6 pm. followed by a Lenten worship service at 7 p.m. Wednesdays Feb. 22 through March 29 at the church, 1120 Harvey Ave. The Rev. • The Mt. Pleasant Ministerium will host free Lenten lunches and a brief worship service at noon Wednesdays Feb. 22 through March 29 at Mt. Pleasant Church of God, 936 W. Main St. Each week a local pastor will deliver the message. No reservations required. Free parking is available. The speaker on Feb. 22 will be the Rev. Bob Ellson, pastor of United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant.
Fundraisers
• Lincoln Heights Civic Association will have bingo 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 16 at the center, 42 Millersdale Road, Jeannette. There will be 20 regular games and five quickies. Cost: 25 cents for a three-card board; $1 for quickies. Payout is 50/50. Free coffee.
• A fish fry to benefit Youngwood Historical & Railroad Museum will be held 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays Feb. 17 through April 7 at the Station Café, 1 Depot St., Youngwood. Menu: fish, haluski, pierogi, homemade chips, desserts and more. Details: 724-925-7355.
• Greensburg Masons will host a pancake breakfast 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Feb. 18 at the lodge, 349 Donohoe Road. Menu: pancakes, sausage, fruit cup and coffee or juice. Cost: $10; children 5 to 11, $5. Proceeds will benefit the Masons.

• Ligonier Valley Historical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Feb. 23 in the common room at Compass Inn Museum, Laughlintown. • A comedy dinner night to benefit Westmoreland County Parks, Trails and Concert Series will be held 6 to 10 p.m. Feb. 24 at Youngwood Volunteer Fire Department, 104 S. • Greensburg Garden Center is accepting applications for the 2023 Katherine Mabis McKenna Scholarship. Applicants must live in Westmoreland County or its bordering counties and have completed one year at an accredited college or university pursuing a two-or four-year degree in botany, horticulture, forestry, landscape architecture or a related field by May 31. Senior Citizen news
• A Seniors for Safe Driving class will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 11 at Circleville United Methodist Church, 11600 Parkway Drive, Irwin. The class is PennDOT approved and for drivers who are at least 55 years old. Safe drivers can receive a 5 percent discount on auto insurance for three years. Cost: $16.
