Westmoreland happenings: Peach festival, coin show, house tour, more
Fundraisers
• A peach festival will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday by West Newton First Church of God at the Lions Field House, Pittsburgh Street, West Newton. There will be sandwiches, salads, peach desserts and drinks.
• A super bingo will be Friday at Marian Hall at St. Bartholomew Church, 2538 Route 119, Crabtree. Doors open at 5 p.m. and early birds begin at 6:30 p.m. Admission: $35, additional packs will be available. The church also has weekly bingo at 6:30 p.m. Sundays in Marian Hall. • Herminie Center for Active Adults, 101 Sewickley Ave., is accepting table reservations for an indoor/outdoor flea market planned for 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the center. Cost: $5 per table. Reservations: 724-446-3282.
• Bullskin Senior Center, 52 Medsger Road, Bullskin, will serve breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the center. Menu: buckwheat and regular pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits with sausage gravy, ham, potatoes, coffee, tea and juice. Cost: $10; 6 to 11, $5; younger than 6, free. Baked goods will be sold.
• A car show to benefit First United Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Kosciuszko Club, 225 N. Depot St., Mt. Pleasant. Vehicle entry fee by donation. There will be prizes, music, food and an appearance by Operation Vet Now’s special race car and motorcycle that honor military veterans in crisis and those killed in action. Details: 724-880-8337.
• Greensburg Coin Club will hold a coin show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Circleville Firehall, 129 Robbins Station Road, North Huntingdon.
• St. Barbara Parish, Harrison City, will host its monthly bingo at 6:45 p.m. Sept. 6 at the church, 111 Raymaley Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. Admission: $27, include regular, specials and the jackpot game. Free coffee. The kitchen will be open and the building is handicap accessible. • Mon Valley Paws will host its annual Paws in the Park and vendor show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 9 at the walking track at Monessen City Park. • A golf outing will be Sept. 29 at Totteridge Golf Course, 2029 Totteridge Drive, Salem, to benefit Pitt-Greensburg athletics, the alumni association and the student emergency fund. Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. and the shotgun start for the four person scramble will be at 9 a.m. Rain or shine. Cost: $150 per golfer, if paid by Sept. 6; $175 each after that date, includes cart, driving range, hot dog at the turn, foursome photo, bag drop, parking lot attendant, refreshments on the course and a steak/chicken buffet by Rizzo’s Malabar Inn. • A military spouse support group meeting will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Latrobe American Legion, 1811 Ligonier St. Friends and family welcome; however, there is no child care available. History
• Historic Hanna’s Town and the Kendra Gallery will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday for guided tours at the site, 809 Forbes Trail Road, Hempfield. Cost: $10; students through high school, $6; 5 and younger, free. Details: 724-836-1800 or westmorelandhistory.org.
• Westmoreland Historical Society will host a Toast of the Tour party with cocktails and hearty appetizers from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 8 at a private house tour at the home of Joseph and Alma Cote, known as Hillcrest-Grey Gables or the Bishop’s House on Greenridge Road in Hempfield Advance tickets required. Party tickets: $75. Self-guided tours of seven houses in the Mt. Pleasant area will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 16. Advance tour tickets: $25. • Adams Memorial Library, 1112 Ligonier St., Latrobe, will offer a four-session classical music appreciation class at 2 p.m. Sept. 12, 19 and 26 and Oct. 3 in the library. Morrie Brand, former director of the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra Academy of Music, will be the instructor. Attendance at all four sessions is required. • The Botanical Society of Westmoreland County will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the red Conservation Barn, 218 Donohoe Road, Hempfield. There will be a short business meeting followed by a program about the Westmoreland Pollinator Partners and Monarch Waystations by Westmoreland County Master Gardeners Patricia Schildkamp and Deborah Christopher. Light refreshments will be served afterward. Annual dues are now payable. New members welcome.
Music
• The Jeannette Business Association will sponsor a concert from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Elliott Group Amphitheater featuring the East Coast Turnaround band. Bring a lawn chair. Food trucks and a beer garden will be on the 400 and 500 blocks of Clay Avenue and South Fifth Street. Rain or shine. No pets, skateboards or bicycles permitted.
Reunion
• Penn-Trafford High School Class of 1978 will have a reunion at 6 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Norwin Elks, 135 Elks Lane, Manor. Dress is casual. Cost: $25 per person.
