Fundraisers

• Jeannette Knights of Columbus hosts bingo at 7 p.m. Fridays in Mersinger Hall at Ascension Church, 615 Division St. Doors open at 6 p.m. and early birds begin at 6:30 p.m. Players younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Food will be available. Details: 724-523-9244.

• West Newton Public Library will have its final book sale of the year from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 26 in the parking lot at 124 N. Water St. Fill two bags for $5. Selections will include non-fiction, sports, history and rock collecting, puzzles, children’s books and paperbacks. Details: 724-633-0798.

• A spaghetti dinner and basket raffle to benefit cancer patient Pauline Ridilla will be from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 27 at AV Germano Hall, also known as the Derry Community Center, 100 W. Second St. Menu: spaghetti, salad, roll, dessert and drink, $10. Dine in or takeout. Basket raffle drawings will begin at 3 p.m. Winners need not be present. • The Norwin Elks will host the Westmoreland County Autism Society’s car cruise from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug 27 at the Norwin Elks, 135 Elks Lane, Manor. Net proceeds will be donated to the Autism Society.

• The 30th annual Labor Day poker run to benefit the Westmoreland Yough Trail Chapter of the Great Allegheny Passage will begin at the Arthur H. King area of the passage in West Newton, rain or shine. This is a non-competitive event that will include a 12-mile level bike ride and a 20-mile endurance bike ride, and a 4-mile walk, jog or wheelchair ride. Participants walk or ride at their own pace and pick up a playing card at checkpoints along the way to make a poker hand. At the end each hand is tallied and the person with the best hand in each category receives a prize. Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. and the ride starts at 8:30 a.m. Cost: $25, children, $10.
