Westmoreland happenings: School supply giveaway, car cruise, class reunion, more

Church News

• Hempfield Church of Christ will have an outdoor worship service at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 3 at the Legion Keener Park amphitheater, 1658 Catherine St., Latrobe. Free backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed from 1 to 3 p.m. and there will be games, food and family fun. Reservations required. Reservations: hempfieldchurch.org/events.

Fundraisers

• E C Cruisers Car Club will host a car cruise from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 1 at 814 Lanes & Games, 4589 Route 136, Hempfield, as part of the Bovard Volunteer Fire Department Burger Bash. The location is changed due to construction in the parking lot of the firehall. Rain or shine. Vehicle registration: $5. There will be a DJ, dash plaques, door prizes, a bake sale and ticket auction. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the fire department. Details: eccruisers.org.

Reunions

• Hempfield Area High School Class of 1970 will have a reunion from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 15 at Rizzo’s Malabar Inn, 126 Rizzo Road, Crabtree. Cost: $50. A catered picnic will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 16 at pavilion f of Hempfield Park. Cost: $20. Reservations required by Aug. 5. Reservations and details: Bill Ayoub, ayoub74@comcast.net.

Special event

• The Penn State Alumni Association of Westmoreland County will host a free student sendoff picnic for incoming Penn State students and their families from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 10 at pavilion 8 in Twin Lakes Park, east of Greensburg. Veterans News

• A veterans service officer will be available to discuss Veterans Administration benefits from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 29 at the Donegal American Legion, 3812 Route 31. Veterans, spouses and widows from all counties welcome. No appointment required. Details: Ron, 724-830-3532.
