• First Baptist Church of Jeannette, 131 N. Second St., will host “Back to Church Sunday” at the 10:45 a.m. service on Sept. 21. The Rev. Jeffrey Johnson, former head of evangelism for American Baptist Churches of Pennsylvania and Delaware, will be the guest speaker. Cake and refreshments will be served afterward. Fundraisers
• A spaghetti dinner will be served from 3 to 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Greensburg Masonic Center, 349 Donohoe Road, Hempfield. Dine-in or takeout. Menu: pasta, salad, bread and dessert. Drinks included with dine-in meals. Cost: $10; 4 to 12, $5; 3 and younger, free. There will be a 50-50. Proceeds will benefit the Masons.
• St. John United Church of Christ, 1230 Brownstown Road, Larimer, will have the last Dog Days of Summer hot dog sale of the season and a soup sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 20 at the church. Soup varieties: chicken noodle, vegetable, stuffed pepper, bean, cheeseburger and wedding. Cost: $7 per quart; $3.50 per pint. No preorders.
• Latrobe Center for Active Adults will have a bingo fundraiser at noon Sept. 20 at the center, 15 Avenue C. Doors open at 11 a.m. There will be a basket raffle and 50-50. Cost: $30, includes lunch. Details: Beverly, 724-539-0237.
• E.C. Cruisers Car Club will host its 31st Sandy Gendek Memorial Cruisin’ to Help the Kids car cruise Sept. 21 at 814 Lanes and Games, 4589 Route 136, Hempfield. Registration will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and trophies will be awarded at 3:30 p.m. Classic cars, trucks and motorcycles welcome. Entry fee: $10 per vehicle. There will be a DJ, bake sale, door prizes, dash plaques, food, a basket auction and 50-50. Proceeds benefit Westmoreland Children First. Details: Jason Lehman, 412-315-8568.
History
• The Greater Monessen Historical Society will sponsor a free discussion with author John J. Turanin at 11 a.m. Sept. 20 at Monessen Public Library, 326 Donner Ave. A graduate of Hempfield Area High School, Donner will talk about his book, “Tin Men Steel Soldiers: The Price Paid in WWII by a Pennsylvania Mill Town: True stories of the Lives and Losses of 81 Men.”
