Church News

• St. James Church, New Alexandria, will present the third installment of the speaker series “Living as Healthy Disciples” at 6 p.m. April 17 in the church social hall, 306 St. James Lane. The topic will be grief and loss. Bob Brinker, a counselor at Catholic Charities, will be the speaker. Details: 724-668-2829.

• First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon, 501 Fayette Ave., Rostraver, will host its free monthly food and fellowship event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 16 at the church. Takeout meals available after 12:30 p.m. Details: 724-929-6968.

Fundraisers

• A spaghetti dinner will be from 4 to 7 p.m. April 18 at First Reformed United Church of Christ, 312 S. Maple Ave., Greensburg. Dine in or takeout. Menu: spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread, butter and dessert. Drinks available with dine-in option. Cost: $15, 10 and younger, $6.

• Lincoln Heights Civic Association will have bingo from 1 to 3 p.m. April 18 at the center, 42 Millersdale Road, Hempfield. There will be 20 regular games and five quickies. Payout is 50/50. Free coffee. Cost: 25 cents for a three-card board; $1 for quickies.

• First United Church of Christ, 400 Main St., Irwin, will have a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. April 18 at the church. Menu: spaghetti, salad, beverage, bread and dessert. Cost: $10; children, $5.

Meetings

• Golden Dome Knitting Guild will meet at 7 p.m. April 18 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 139 N. Main St., Greensburg. The program will be a review of knitting from charts with several sample charts including straight knitting and knitting in the round. Bring something that you made or are working on and chemo caps and items for donation to Feeding the Spirit. Guests and new members welcome. Details: Lorraine, 724-836-6323.

Senior Citizen News

• Irwin Senior Activity Center, 310 Oak St., will celebrate National Banana Day with a dessert at 12:30 p.m. April 17. There will be no line dancing on April 17. A program about Alzheimer’s disease will be at 10 a.m. April 18. Details: 724-787-1760 or mumsest@aol.com.

Special Event

• Yough Communities CARE will host a panel discussion about the hazards of fracking waste in local landfills at 7 p.m. April 17 in the West Newton gym, 113 S. Fifth St. Free light refreshments will be served. Details: youghcare@gmail.com.
