Church news

• Greensburg Church of the Brethren, 554 Stanton St., will honor school workers including teachers, secretaries, custodians, maintenance workers, paraprofessionals and aides at the 10:30 a.m. May 1 church service.

Fundraisers

• Heritage United Methodist Church on the Diamond in Ligonier will sponsor a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 29 and 8 a.m. to noon April 30 April 30 at the church. Refreshments will be sold from 8 a.m. to noon Friday. Dine in or takeout. Proceeds will benefit church global missions.

• The 51st annual tag sale will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 29 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30 in Laird Hall at First Presbyterian Church, 3202 N. Hills Road, Murrysville. Details: 724-327-0728 or 724-327-8035.

• Greensburg Church of the Brethren will sell soup and sandwiches from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 30 at the church, 554 Stanton St. Menu: hot dogs, hot sausage and kielbasa, $4; soup, $5 per quart. Proceeds will be used to feed the hungry. Details: 724-834-2130.

• St. James Lutheran Church, 4329 Route 982, Youngstown, will host a strawberry festival from 2 to 5 p.m. April 30 at the church. Menu: ham barbeques, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, cake, strawberries, ice cream, pop and water. Dine in or takeout.

• New Alexandria Center for Active Adults will have bingo at 1 p.m. April 30 at the center, 207 W. Main St. Doors open at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon. Cost: $20, includes lunch, cards for all 10 games and a jackpot ticket. Reservations recommended, but not required. The theme will be, “April Showers Bring May Flowers.” Wear something related to the theme to receive an extra jackpot ticket. There will be door prizes, a basket raffle and 50/50. • A rummage sale will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 30 at Greensburg First United Methodist Church, 15 E. Second St. Sponsored by the church United Methodist Women. Proceeds will support mission projects.

• Jeannette American Legion will host a super bingo at 1 p.m. May 1 at the post, 109 S. Fifth St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Cost: $20 per packet, full extra packet and specials available. The kitchen will be open. Details: 724-600-5061.

• Community Church of Hecla, 537 Hecla Road, Mt. Pleasant Township, will host a Vera Bradley bingo at 2 p.m. May 1 at the church. Doors open at 1 p.m. and a light lunch will be served. Details: 724-396-8065 or 724-244-2586.

• St. Barbara Parish, Penn Township, will have its monthly bingo at 6:45 p.m. May 4 at the church, 111 Raymaley Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. Paper packages start at $27. • Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Greensburg will sponsor a Sabika jewelry bingo from 6 to 9:30 p.m. May 5 at The Barn at West Overton Village, 109 W. Overton Road, East Huntingdon. Cost: $35, includes 15 games, light appetizers, mini desserts, specialty coffees and beverages from 6 until games start at 7 p.m. Must be at least 21. • St. Barbara Parish Ladies Guild will host a Mother’s Day Tea from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 7 in the church social hall, 111 Raymaley Road, Penn Township. Cost: $30, includes five-course menu. • The Braddock Trail Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will sponsor a basket bazaar May 7 at Kecksburg Volunteer Fire Hall, 5128 Water St., Mt. Pleasant Township. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. and ticket drawings will begin at 1:30 p.m. Children 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Cost: $15, includes 25 basket raffle tickets, a door prize chance and refreshments. There will be a 50/50 raffle and separate high-end raffle baskets. Must be present to win. Kecksburg Volunteer Firemen will sell a limited lunch menu. Proceeds benefit the DAR’s historic renovation project. A limited number of tickets will be sold at the door. • The Masterworks Concert Chorale will perform, “The Musical World of Disney,” at 7 p.m. April 30 at Level Green Presbyterian Church, 105 Olive Drive, Penn Township, and at 2 p.m. May 1 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 4725 Old William Penn Highway, Murrysville.
