Church News

• Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church, 4600 Old William Penn Highway, Murrysville, will host a community Pentecost picnic June 8 at the church. A worship service will be at 10 a.m. and the picnic will be afterward. There will be a bounce house, activities for all ages, an obstacle course and food. Reservations are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. Reservations: newlonsburgchurch.org.

• Christ Lutheran Church, 302 Vine St., West Newton, will have a free event for children in kindergarten through fourth grade and a parent or guardian from noon to 1:30 p.m. June 7 at the church. There will be food, games, music, a craft and the story of Pentecost will be read. Reservations required by June 4. Reservations: 724-872-7177, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

• Greensburg Church of the Brethren hosts a night of fun and fellowship for individuals and groups with developmental disabilities from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays at the church, 554 Stanton St., Southwest Greensburg. Dinner is included. Participants must be accompanied by a family member or caregiver. Donations will be accepted. Details: 724-834-2130 or gbgcob.org.

Fundraisers

• Community United Presbyterian Church of New Alexandra will host its 67th annual strawberry festival from 4:30 to 7 p.m. June 7 at the church, 1640 Keystone Park Road. Menu: ham barbecues, hot dogs and sauerkraut, potato salad, baked beans, ice cream, strawberries, cake and drinks. There will be a basket raffle.

• Olive Branch Baptist Church, 296 Route 981, Rostraver, will host its monthly clothing sale from 9:30 to 11 a.m. June 7 at the church. Cost: men’s and ladies jeans, shorts or capri pants, 10 cents; ladies tops, 50 cents each or four for $1; all children’s wear, 25 cents each. Profits are used to help those in need.

• Lincoln Heights Civic Association will have bingo from 1 to 3 p.m. June 5 at the center, 42 Millersdale Road, Hempfield. There will be 20 regular games and five quickies. Payout is 50-50. Free coffee. Cost: 25 cents for a three-card board; $1 for quickies.

• Level Green Presbyterian Church, 105 Olive Drive, Penn Township, will have a strawberry festival from 3 to 6 p.m. June 7 at the church. Menu: ham barbecues, hot dogs, side dishes, and strawberry sundaes and shortcakes. Dine in or takeout. In case of inclement weather, the festival will be in the church fellowship hall.

Health

• An American Red Cross Blood community blood drive will be from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 6 in the multipurpose room of the North Huntingdon Town House, 11279 Center Highway. Appointments recommended, but walk-ins are welcome. Appointments: 800-733-2767 or visit redcrossblood.org.

• Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at Union Presbyterian Church, 656 Route 380, Washington Township.

Meetings

• The Braddock Trail chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at noon June 7 at the chapter house, 200 S. Church St., Mt. Pleasant. Chapter officers will be installed and a picnic lunch will be afterward. Members are asked to bring a covered dish to share.

Senior Citizens

• Irwin Senior Activity Center, 310 Oak St., will have a program about outdoor safety at 10 a.m. June 3. A celebration of National Cheese Day with a tasting will be at 11:30 a.m. June 4. Reservations for events and lunch are required at least one day in advance. Donations are accepted for all activities. Details: 724-787-1760.

• Super Seniors of Westmoreland County will meet at noon June 3 at Community United Methodist Church, 3487 Route 130, Penn Township. Lunch cost: $2. Annual $5 dues will be collected. There will be entertainment after the meeting. New members welcome. Reservations: Theresa Barry, 724-875-4813.

Special events

• The Fayette County Fiber Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 7 at the Fayette County Fairgrounds, 132 Pechin Road, Dunbar Township. There will be more than 40 vendors and sheep shearing demonstrations. Admission and parking are free. Nonperishable food items will be collected for the Connellsville Community Ministries Food Bank.

• The Cook Township Community Market will open for the season June 4 at the township community center, 1714 Route 711. Hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month through Oct. 1. Vendor information: cooktwpcc@yahoo.com.
