Westmoreland happenings: Valentine's Day parties, soup sale, turkey dinner, more

Fundraisers
• Community Church of Hecla, 537 Hecla Road, Mt. Pleasant Township, will host a turkey dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at the church. Dine in or takeout. Details and takeout orders: 724-396-8065 or 724-244-2586.
• Christian Mothers of Holy Family Church will sell soup by the quart and baked goods after the 5 p.m. Feb. 11 and noon Feb. 12 Masses at the church, North Second St., West Newton.
• Jeannette Holy Name Society will have a pancake and sausage breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 12 in Mersinger Hall, 615 Division St., Jeannette. Menu: buttermilk pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, fruit cup, juice and coffee. Cost: $10; 6 to 10 years old, $5, 5 and younger, free. Dine in or takeout. Meetings
• The Braddock Trail chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet Feb. 11 at the chapter house, 200 S. Church St., Mt. Pleasant. Lunch will be served at noon and the meeting will begin at 1 p.m. The program will be an essay presentation by the Good Citizens student. Delegates and alternates to the Continental Congress will be elected.
• The Westmoreland County/Laurel Highlands chapter of the American Field Service high school exchange program will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 13 at the One Room Schoolhouse, 810 Welty St., Southwest Greensburg. Jeannette High School exchange student Yuri Motoshima from Japan will discuss her country. Public welcome. Details: darfrederick@aol.com.
• South Hills Coin Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Bethel Park Municipal Building, 5100 W. Library Ave. The program will be about coins from the Canadian Atlantic provinces and France. Senior Citizen news
• Latrobe Center for Active Adults, 15 Avenue C, will have a Valentine’s Day party from noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 14 at the center. The king and queen will be crowned and there will be entertainment, refreshments, a basket raffle and 50-50 drawing. Reservations required at: 724-539-0237 or at the center front desk.
• A free Valentine’s Day party will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 14 at Herminie Center for Active Adults, 101 Sewickley Ave., rear. The Pittsburgh Belairs will perform at 1 p.m. Lunch will be available for $2 for those over 60 and $3.97 for younger than 60. Menu: chicken alfredo, broccoli, white bread and apple cranberry crisp. • Level Green Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Feb. 16 at the Level Green Lions Community Building, 123 Murrysville Road, Penn Township. The speaker will be Penn Township Police Chief John Otto.
