Westmoreland happenings: Wine and chocolate gala, autumn festival, bingo bash, more
Festival
• The Southwest Greensburg Autumn Festival will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Civic Society building, 424 Brandon St. There will be music, a bounce house, children’s games and crafts, food, a basket raffle and more. Bring a lawn chair and bag or bucket for candy.
Fundraisers
• Westmoreland County Blind Association will host a bingo bash at 1 p.m. Oct. 4 at West Point Firehall, 100 Volunteer Drive, Hempfield. Doors open at 11:45 a.m. and lunch will be at noon. Cost: $25, includes dauber and a boxed lunch. Extra packages will be available and there will be a basket raffle, strip tickets, door prizes and a 50-50. • A burger bash and car show will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 27 at St. Vincent Grove, 320 Monastery Drive, Unity. Sponsored by St. Vincent Basilica Parish, there will be food, a jewelry booth, DJ and 50-50. Free admission.
• A wine and chocolate gala to benefit Westmoreland Children First will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Fred Rogers Conference Center at Saint Vincent College, 300 Fraser Purchase Road, Unity. Cost: $60, includes small bites, gourmet chocolates and wine. Tickets: westmorelandchildrenfirst.org.
• The fifth annual Rockin’ With Our Sister Kelly Jo event to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Polish Brotherhood of the White Eagles, 523 S. Fifth St., Jeannette. Food will be sold and there will be a bake sale, silent auction and 50-50. Entertainment will be by Stone Broke.
• The Pitt-Greensburg Golf Outing Committee will sponsor a drone golf ball drop raffle at the golf outing Friday, Sept. 26, at Hannastown Golf Club, 441 Blank School Road, Hempfield. Cost: one ball, $30; two for $50; and five for $100. Winners need not be present. Details: tinyurl.com/4f4bbz9x.
• The Westmoreland County Walk to End Alzheimers will be Sept. 28 at Twin Lakes Park, east of Greensburg. Check-in will be at 10 a.m. in pavilion 7. The Promise Garden ceremony will be at 11 a.m. and the walk will begin afterward. Details: tinyurl.com/5y8aa8u7.

Special events
• The annual Greensburg Salem High School Homecoming Festival Bonfire will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday , Sept. 24, at the school gravel parking lot, 65 Mennel Drive, Greensburg. The marching band and cheerleaders will perform and the homecoming court will be introduced. There will be concessions, yard games, contests, music, a macaroni and cheese cook-off and vendor booths from the school clubs and booster groups. Proceeds will benefit the student activities sponsored by the Student Council Association and individual school activity club booster groups. Public welcome.
• Westmoreland Woodlands Improvement Association will sponsor a free field trip Saturday, Sept. 27, to Ritenour Lumber Co., 248 Calvary Church Road, Saltlick. Veterans News
• Norwin Elks with the Westmoreland Food Bank and the Pennsylvania National Guard will host a Military Share food distribution from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 9 at the Elks Lodge, 135 Elks Lane, Manor. All Westmoreland County veterans, active-duty military — including National Guard and Reserve personnel — are welcome. First-time recipients must present a DD-214, VA Card or other military ID.
