The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit is seeking donations to fill 1,000 backpacks for homeless children in Westmoreland County and across the state.

The backpacks will be assembled during the Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Units statewide conference to be held locally in May. The Westmoreland unit is hosting the conference at Seven Springs and is seeking hygiene, personal and comfort items for the bags, including:

• small journal or notebook

• deodorant

• bars of soap

• toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes

• travel-size bathroom products

• knit gloves, hat and socks and blankets

The donation deadline is March 1. To make delivery or pick up arrangements, contact Christie Ridenour at 724-836-2460, ext. 2299.

Monetary donations can be made by check payable to the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit Foundation and mailed to the unit at 102 Equity Drive, Greensburg, PA 15601. Mail should be marked to Ridenour’s attention.
