Westmoreland Manor has 16 new cases of coronavirus
Another 13 residents and three employees tested positive for coronavirus at Westmoreland Manor.
With the new cases, there are now 67 of the county-owed nursing home’s 336 residents and 26 staff members who have been diagnosed with covid-19 since the outbreak was first discovered in mid-September.
“There have been no hospitalizations at this time. It is anticipated that the Pennsylvania National Guard will remain at the facility for the next few days,” according to a statement released by the county Thursday afternoon.
County commissioners last week called in the guard to assist with testing of residents at the Hempfield facility. The guard was expected to work at the Manor for three days but the unit’s stay has been extended as cases mount.
Testing of residents and staff who have not been infected with the virus will continue every three to seven days until no new positive cases are reported.
State health officials said Thursday that 22 new cases of coronavirus were diagnosed in the county.
Until the recent outbreak at the Manor, there had been no reported covid-19 cases among residents there. Four staffers had previously tested positive, but none since the end of July.
