Westmoreland Museum plans pop-up Spring Fling artisan market
Shopping, entertainment and visits with authors will be available during the Museum Shop Spring Fling pop-up artisan market this weekend at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art.
The event will take place on the Swank Terrace and Jack and Anne Robertshaw Garden walkways outside of the Greensburg museum at 221 N. Main St. Hours will be 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Many of the vendors will have items suitable for Father’s Day gift-giving, said Dwi Bartlebaugh, museum shop manager. Vendors also will be available to talk with visitors about their wares and artistic practices.
The event also will feature meet-the-author and book-signing sessions and performances by Westmoreland Youth Ballet.
Featured artists and artisans will include:
• Art by Nick, by Nick Hughes
• Jon Bolivar, hand-blown glass products
• Buildings by Shane, with Shane Henderson (Saturday only)
• Vicki Ivancik, hand-painted scarves and framed paintings
• Little Beads, by Bri Donahue, stackable bracelets, earrings and other jewelry
• MetaLace, by Kathryn Stanko, jewelry
• Once They Were Trees, by David Pearson, wooden clocks, bowls, boxes, cutting/charcuterie boards, jewelry and ornaments
• Irene Patrick, quilted pillow covers, blankets, framed art, journal covers, table runner, pouches and other items
• A Pretty Flower, fresh flower cart. Shoppers will be able to choose blooms for make-your-own bouquets.
• Bruce Senchesen, anodized titanium jewelry and demonstration of his anodizing chemical process (Saturday only)
• Treecup Tea, serving beverages. For each bottle of tea sold, the company plants a tree in Haiti, Bartlebaugh said.
• Tender Blossoms, by Connie Blair, jewelry, hair accessories, hats and scarves (Sunday only).
The ballet will present three numbers: “Precious Jewels” from “The Sleeping Beauty”; “Fairies” from “Morning in the Garden”; and an excerpt from a Gershwin suite.
Performances will be at noon, 2 and 3 p.m. Saturday only. Each will run about 15 minutes.
“Some of the dancers will stay in costume, if anyone would like pictures in between,” Bartlebaugh said.
Authors and their featured books include:
• Pittsburgh artist Ron Donoughe, “Brownsville to Braddock: Paintings and Observations of the Monogahela Valley, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday
• The Westmoreland’s Chief Curator Barbara Jones, “Simple Pleasures: The Art of Doris Lee,” 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday
• Doug Cooper, “Knowing and Seeing: Reflections on Fifty Years of Drawing Cities,” 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday
• Mark Perrott, several books including “Tattoo Witness” and “Eliza,” 1-4 p.m. Sunday. The museum shop has the last available signed copy of “Eliza,” Bartlebaugh said.
Visitors also can browse the museum shop.
“We have a lot of new products and vendors,” Bartlebaugh said, including Charming Little Lotus, jewelry; Paula Nettleship; MerriAnn Grant; RockHaus Metals, jewelry; MCreativeJ, embroidered pins and embroidery kits; Cindy Liebel, jewelry; and Daisy Mae Designs, custom-ordered map prints of Greensburg, Latrobe, Jeannette and Irwin; wine tote bags and home decor.
Museum members will a receive a 10% discount on items purchased in the shop.
Beverages and snacks will be available from the museum’s Cafe Marchand. Visitors also can bring their own food or order delivery from local restaurants to enjoy on the museum terrace, Bartlebaugh said.
The museum requests that visitors make advance online reservations for Spring Fling and wear a mask and practice social distancing on-site. Walk-ins will be welcome only as space allows.
The Westmoreland will ask visitors to continue to wear masks while indoors until June 28 or until Pennsylvania mask mandates are lifted.
In case of rain, the pop-up shop will be set up in the museum’s community room.
