Animal rescue

• Point Pleasant Retirement in White Oak, the White Oak Animal Shelter and Animal Friends will host at pet rescue day from noon to 4 p.m. April 17 at the Point Pleasant, 120 Mosside Blvd., White Oak. The public is welcome to visit and find a fur-ever friend. Donations will be accepted to benefit the no-kill White Oak Animal Shelter and Animal Friends. Reservations appreciated, but not required. Fundraisers

• Bushy Run Lions Club will host a drive-thru chicken barbecue dinner from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 25 or until sold out at the club community building, Church St., Claridge, Penn Township. Menu: half chicken, coleslaw, roll, cookies and drink, $10. Advance tickets recommended. A limited number will be available at the event. Tickets: 724-757-9959 or 724-744-2028.

• A rummage sale will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 17 at Fairview Church of God, 2202-2206 Route 982, Mt. Pleasant Township.

• St. John’s United Church of Christ will host a takeout pasta night from 4 to 7 p.m. April 17 at the church, 1230 Brownstown Road, Larimer, North Huntingdon. Menu: stuffed shells, lasagna, spaghetti and meatball, garden salad and dessert. Cost: $10; 12 and younger, $5. Tickets: 724-863-3093 or 724-493-8982 or at the door

• Laurelville Retreat Center, 941 Laurelville Lane, Mt. Pleasant Township, is accepting reservations for an indoor community yard sale planned for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 15 in the center gymnasium. Cost: $10 for two 6-foot tables provided by the center. Set up: May 14 evening. No food or drink sales permitted. Nonprofits may set up in the pop-up areas outside. • Unity Township American Legion Baseball Team will host a bingo night at 7 p.m. April 17 at the post, 158 American Legion Road. There will be a basket raffle and the kitchen will be open. Proceeds will be used for uniforms, umpire fees and overall team costs. Details: Ron McCracken, 724-423-9284

• West Newton Library will host a jewelry and book bag sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 24 in the library parking lot, 124 N. Water St. Rain date: May 1. Cost: $5 for a bag of books. Face masks and social distancing required. Please park in the West Newton Senior Center lot or on the left past the library. Book donations will be accepted until Apr. 24. Jewelry donations will be accepted after the sale for next year.


Library news

• Delmont Public Library will host the monthly Socrates Café event at 7 p.m. April 17. The topic will be the civil religion of Americanism. Social distancing and face masks required. Details: 724-468-5329 or delmontlibrary@gmail.com

Scholarship

• The Greensburg Garden Center is accepting applications for the 2021 Katherine Mabis McKenna Scholarship. The award is $1,500. Applicants must live in Westmoreland County or its bordering counties and have completed on year at an accredited college or university pursuing a two-or four-year degree in botany, horticulture, forestry, landscape architecture or related field.
