• A celebration to mark the opening of a garden in memory Bill and Catherine Rowe will be from 2 to 4 p.m. May 2 at the entry of the Rowe Gallery at the Greensburg Art Center, 230 Todd School Road. Public welcome.
Fundraisers
• Angora Gardens Greenhouse, 3 Muse Lane, White Oak, will host a plant sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 1. Advance orders for May 3 to 8 curbside pickup welcome. Quantities will be limited. • Heritage United Methodist Church on the Diamond, Ligonier, will have a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 1 at the church. Lunch will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, dine in or take out. Masks and social distancing required. Proceeds will benefit local and foreign missions.
• The third annual Wine, Whiskey and Sweets Walk sponsored by the Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce will be from 1 to 5 p.m. May 8 in downtown Ligonier. • The 19th annual golf outing to benefit the Westmoreland County Blind Association will be May 28 at the Madison Club, 519 Yukon Road, Sewickley Township. Registration is at 7:30 a.m. and a shotgun start will be at 9. Cost: $100 per golfer, includes 18 holes of golf with cart, lunch at the turn, steak dinner at 2:30 p.m. and a commemorative gift. School news
• Registration and screening for children who will enter Laurel Valley Elementary School K4 and kindergarten in the Ligonier Valley School District will be by appointment from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 to 2:45 p.m. May 5 and 12 at the school. A readiness inventory will be given to the child at registration. Children must be 3 or 4 years old by the first day of school to attend K4 and 5 years old to attend kindergarten. Bring the child’s birth certificate, complete immunization records, proof of residency and custody/guardianship paperwork. For K4 registration, a 2020 W-2 or tax return are also required. • A Mother’s Day Arts and Crafts Show will continue through May 9 during mall hours on the lower level at Westmoreland Mall. The event will feature a wide variety of handmade jewelry, artwork, home décor and more.
• St. John Union Church, 170 Hecla Road, Mt. Pleasant Township, will host a free drive-thru spaghetti dinner from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 1 at the church.
