Church services

• Derry First United Methodist Church will distribute palms from 10 a.m. to noon March 27 in the church parking lot, 311 N. Ligonier St., and at the 11 a.m. March 28 in-person Palm Sunday service. Alternate arrangements: 724-694-8333


Employment help

• Westmoreland County YWCA, Greensburg, is offering a free program, New Choices, beginning April 7 for anyone who is looking for a job or preparing to return to work. Details: 724-834-9390 or ywcawestmoreland.org


Fundraisers

• Derry First United Methodist Church, 311 N. Ligonier St., is accepting orders for a takeout Swiss steak dinner set for April 10. Menu: Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, applesauce, rolls and cake, $12. Pick up: 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the church. Order deadline: April 3. Orders: 724-694-8333, 9 a.m. to noon Mondays through Saturdays beginning March 29

• Greensburg-Jeannette NAACP will host a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 27 in the parking lot at 1011 Old Salem Road, Greensburg. Masks and social distancing required.

• Youngwood Lions will host a takeout pancake, sausage and egg breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon March 27 at Christ United Methodist Church, 100 Lincoln St., Youngwood. Cost: $7; children 6 to 12, $3.


Health news

• Laurelville Retreat Center, Mt. Pleasant Township, and Excela Health will offer two online programs on brain health and preventing dementia at noon March 25 and April 13 on Zoom.us. The March 25 event will be an online game that uses questions and activities to highlight the importance of age proofing our brains against Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia. Excela Health nutritionist Dawn Divoli will lead an informative lunch and learn game. Part 2 will be at noon April 13 and will be a Zoom cooking class. Cook along with Divoli or just watch and learn. Meeting links will be sent to registrants. Donations will be accepted to benefit Laurelville’s community programs. Registration: Mary@laurelville.org
