Westmoreland news: mindful painting class, peach festival and cornhole tournament
Class
• Westmoreland Museum of American Art will offer a Mindful Painting class with Dorit Brauer from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 12 at the museum, 221 N. Main St. Includes a Chakra Color guided meditation and a sound bath with singing bowls. Cost: $45, non-members, $50. Bring your own materials. Reservations required by Sept. 3. Fundraisers
• West Newton First Church of God will host a Peach Festival from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 2 at the Lions field house, 507 Pittsburgh St., West Newton. Menu: hot dogs, sauerkraut, sloppy joes, barbecued pulled pork, baked beans, potato or macaroni salad, cake, ice cream and peach cobbler. Free refills on beverages.
• The St. Pius X Parish End of Summer Fest will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sept. 5 at the church, 222 Summit St., Mt. Pleasant. There will be food, instant bingo, a basket raffle, 50/50 and children’s games. Entertainment from 5 to 8 p.m. will be Scott Hall, “The One Man Band.”
• Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a cornhole tournament at 11 a.m. Sept. 11 at the Ligonier municipal lot, across from the YMCA. Rain date: Sept. 18. Registration will be at 10 a.m. There will be advanced and social divisions and prizes will be awarded. Entrance fee: $60 per team. Early registration suggested for teams of 2 only. Meetings
Local chapters of the Women’s Business Network have scheduled meetings. Those attending can learn how the group supports the success and growth of women in business. • As part of Suicide Prevention Week, Come, Talk Inc. will present guest speaker suicide loss survivor Josh Horner of Johnstown at 6 p.m. Sept. 8 at the center, 321 Main St., Irwin.
