Westmoreland County incumbent Republican Treasurer Jared Squires announced Tuesday he will seek a third term.

Squires, 41, of Mt. Pleasant Township, was first elected in 2011 and won re-election in 2015.

“The Treasurer’s Office has continued to maintain a focus on customer service while keeping the costs of the office down,” Squires said. “As chairman on the Westmoreland County Records Improvement Board and a member of the retirement board, I bring my experience and education to help protect and grow the many services that the citizens of Westmoreland County rely on.”

The office is responsible for overseeing money collected and disbursed by the county. The office also sells dog licenses and permits for hunting, fishing and the operation of small games of chances.

Squires has bachelor degrees in physics from Drexel University and accounting from Franklin University. He has a master’s degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Florida.
