Westmoreland County Register of Wills Sherry Magretti Hamilton has announced she will seek a second term in office.
Hamilton, 42, a Republican from Hempfield, was first elected in 2015 to run the courthouse office that oversees estate records, orphans court and marriage licenses. She served one year as the office’s chief deputy before being elected to replace her former boss Michael Ginsburg, who did not run for a second term.
“We have made great strides in making estate records available electronically. Technology has made it more convenient for people looking for estate information. We are pleased that we can offer this service. I want to continue to further implement the use of technology in the office,” Hamilton said.
Hamilton graduated from University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg with a bachelor’s of science degree in psychology and earned a law degree in 2003 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He also holds a MBA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Hamilton worked in Pittsburgh as an attorney specializing in conflicts of interest and ethics law and previously served as a Hempfield Township supervisor.
Hamilton will be challenged in the Republican primary by her former chief deputy Kimberly Horrell. Office clerk Katie Pecarchik announced last week she will run for the office as a Democrat.
