A winning Powerball ticket worth $206.9 million was sold in New Stanton, lottery officials said, marking the first time since 2018 a jackpot was won in Pennsylvania.

The ticket was sold at the Sheetz on North Center Avenue. The store will receive a $100,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The winner matched all five white balls drawn — 9-21-56-57-66 — and the red Powerball, 11, during Wednesday’s drawing, officials said.

The jackpot was worth an estimated annuity value of $206.9 million, or $122.3 million cash.

“The Pennsylvania Lottery congratulates the big winner and our retailer for selling this big Powerball jackpot-winning ticket,” said Drew Svitko, the lottery’s executive director.

The sale of the winning lottery ticket was talk among patrons at Pagano’s restaurant and tavern in New Stanton, said longtime owner Ray Davis.

“Everyone’s wondering if it is a local person or someone from out of state,” said Davis, who sometimes plays the lottery.

With its location just off the Pennsylvania Turnpike and at the intersection with Interstate 70, New Stanton businesses can see a lot of long-distance travelers and truckers.

A devoted local lottery player, Greg Edwards, 59, of Hunker, said he only has bad luck when he puts money down for his Pennsylvania Lottery Mega Millions ticket.

“I couldn’t win a free trip to the outhouse,” Edwards joked.

Had he not been playing the lottery all these years and had saved that money instead, “I would have been a millionaire,” said Edwards, expressing a sentiment many lottery players may share.

The last time the jackpot was won was June 29, when a ticket worth $366.7 million was sold in Vermont.

For Pennsylvanians, this week’s winning ticket marks the first time one has been sold in state since a lucky winner in Lancaster took home $456.8 million four years ago.

The jackpot now reset to an estimated annuity value of $20 million, or $11.8 million in cash, for the next drawing on Saturday.

Winners, who are not known until prizes are claimed and tickets validated, have one year from the drawing date to claim prizes.

Nick Ruffner, a Sheetz spokesman, also congratulated the lottery winner.

“We are excited that our customers continue to win big at Sheetz,” Ruffner said. “In fact, in 2022 alone, Sheetz has paid out over $230 million in Pennsylvania Lottery cash prizes to customers.”
