State police arrested a man wanted on an extradition warrant out of Wisconsin on Thursday afternoon at a Hempfield gym.

Police from Troop A in Greensburg received information that Martin Alvarez Jr., 35, of Youngwood, was at Anytime Fitness on Route 30 in Hempfield. A non-uniformed trooper went to the gym and spotted Alvarez, according to court documents.

Police said Alvarez resisted arrest and attempted to run, and they deployed Tasers to get him on the ground and into custody.

He was charged with resisting arrest, institutional vandalism, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct.

Unable to post $100,000 bail, he was taken to Westmoreland County Prison, and has a Dec. 23 preliminary hearing in Judge Mark Mansour’s Hempfield court.
