An Allegheny County woman is accused of shooting her boyfriend at a Penn Township home early Tuesday, according to court papers.
The 32-year-old man was shot in the shoulder and neck and was taken to AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, authorities said.
Police arrested Leah Hope Gillis, 33, of North Braddock on charges of attempted homicide, attempted aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
Gillis called 911 at 2:20 a.m. and said she shot the man after he threatened her, according to court papers. Emergency responders found the pair outside the Ader Road house, not far from Route 22, and, police said, the wounded man told them Gillis shot him because she thought he was cheating on her.
Gillis and the wounded man had been staying at the home with its owner for the past few weeks, authorities said. The shotgun used in the shooting belonged to the homeowner, according to court papers.
Gillis told investigators she and the man were arguing when she retrieved the shotgun from a dining room table because she felt threatened, police said. She pointed it at her boyfriend through a glass door and fired it as he walked toward the house, according to court papers.
“She stated that she did not intend to shoot him, only scare him,” investigators wrote in the criminal complaint.
Gillis was being held at Westmoreland County Prison without bail. She did not have an attorney listed in online court records. An Aug. 16 preliminary hearing is set.
