State police have identified a pedestrian hit by a truck on Route 30 in Hempfield Tuesday morning.
Gloria A. Piper, 71, of Penn suffered a suspected serious injury in the incident shortly after 9 a.m. near Nature Park Road.
According to state police, Piper was walking north across Route 30 about 30 yards from Nature Park Road. Thomas Kinzey, 52, of Latrobe was driving an Indiana Phoenix, a concrete mixer, west on Route 30 in the far right lane.
Piper was crossing Route 30 in between vehicles when the red light turned green. Police said Piper walked into the far right lane of Route 30, directly in the path of Kinzey’s vehicle.
Police said Kinzey did apply his brakes. He was not hurt.
Piper was taken by ambulance to UPMC Presbyterian for treatment, police said. No other information on the extent or nature of her injuries was provided.
