Police: Woman stabbed at least 10 times in Monessen
An argument over money led to the early-morning stabbing of a 28-year-old Monessen woman who was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital Monday, police said.
Tiffany Grogan, 37, is accused of stabbing Haley Aldrich inside Aldrich’s residence at Highland Manor in the 300 block of 10th Street at 1:42 a.m., according to court documents. Police allege Grogan stabbed Aldrich at least 10 times.
Grogan was arraigned before senior District Judge Thomas Brletic of McKeesport on charges of attempted homicide, four counts of reckless endangerment and three counts each of harassment and simple assault. Brletic refused to set bail for Grogan, saying she was a threat to the safety of the community, according to court dockets.
Police were dispatched to the scene and were met by acquaintances of Aldrich, who reported she had been stabbed multiple times by Grogan when she refused Grogan’s request to loan her money, Officer Alan Hritz said. Police said Aldrich was sitting on the floor, which was “covered with blood.”
“Aldrich had wounds on her head, neck, back arm and under her arm area,” Hritz wrote. “She was soaked in blood (but) conscious and alert.”
Aldrich was allegedly stabbed with a small pocketknife, Lt. David Yuhasz said. She and witnesses identified the alleged stabber, he said.
Aldrich was flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh’s North Side, where Yuhasz said she was in stable condition.
Aldrich and witnesses said Grogan, who is her neighbor, came to the residence and asked for money. When Aldrich informed Grogan she had no money, the two began arguing, police reported. Police said Grogan then pulled out the knife and began stabbing Aldrich.
Two other women, including one who was holding a small child, came to the aid of Aldrich, also suffered lacerations, police said. Both refused medical treatment.
“(One woman) was holding Grogan’s arm down (as she held her child) to restrain her, but Grogan bit her right bicep,” Hritz said in court documents.
When police went to Grogan’s residence, she refused to come to the door until a relative arrived, Hritz said. She initially told police she was attacked by three women and didn’t know anything about the stabbing.
“(Grogan) kept saying she didn’t stab that girl. Meanwhile, no officer mentioned anything about a stabbing,” Hritz said.
