Firefighters had to cut off the roof of an overturned sport utility vehicle Thursday afternoon to free the woman who was trapped after her SUV collided with another vehicle along Route 30 at a Unity furniture store, fire officials said.

The woman, whose identity was not released, was transported to Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, state police Trooper Tristan Tappe said.

The woman was driving the Ford Escape eastbound on Route 30 when it collided with another eastbound SUV at about 5:40 p.m.

The Ford Escape came to rest with the driver’s side of the vehicle on the pavement of the parking lot of the Lazor Furniture store, which sits between the eastbound and westbound lanes of the highway. The other vehicle was off to the side of the eastbound lanes, which freed one lane of the eastbound traffic to proceed along the busy highway.

The woman was talking when firefighters went to extract her from the vehicle, said David Smith, assistant chief of the Youngstown Fire Department.

Occupants of the other SUV, which was damaged on the driver’s door, sustained cuts and abrasions and were transported to a hospital, Smith said.
