Sarah A. Miller, 31, of Greensburg.

Sarah Miller’s plan with three friends to retaliate against a man she claimed disrespected and spit at her might have seemed foolproof at the time.

The scheme was to drive up, wait for their target to emerge from his Crabtree home, whack him in the head and then speed off undetected. It might have worked if not for the fact they hit the wrong person and were caught on video before the attack, according to Westmoreland County prosecutors.

Miller, 32, now of Latrobe, pleaded guilty Thursday to felony counts of aggravated assault and conspiracy for the Aug. 19, 2019, attack against a man who suffered skull fractures, a brain injury, lacerations and broken ribs after being hit multiple times with what police believe was a pipe or baseball bat.

Assistant District Attorney Rebecca Calisti said Miller and her friends mistakenly attacked their target’s roommate as he went outside to clean up trash.

“It’s clear they assaulted the wrong person,” Calisti said.

She said phone records revealed that Miller and her boyfriend Matthew White, 21, of Greensburg, along with Treavair Green, 20, of Pittsburgh, and Devon Allen, 26, of Pittsburgh drove to Crabtree, jumped out of a car and attacked the victim before fleeing in her 2006 Chevrolet Malibu.

Although the victim could not identify his attackers, Calisti said surveillance video recorded Miller’s vehicle as it pulled into a parking lot a few doors down from the scene of the attack. The vehicle was traced back to Miller, who Calisti said was found sitting together with her three co-defendants in a Greensburg home later that day.

“There were no confessions,” Calisti said.

Miller, who has been in jail since her arrest, told Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Mears it was in her best interest to accept a plea deal as prosecutors agreed to dismiss a second charge of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor simple assault offense.

Mears sentenced Miller to serve 2 to 4 years in prison.

Calisti called Miller the ringleader of the group. She was the second person to plead guilty in connection with the incident.

Green pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and conspiracy charges in October. He also was sentenced to 2 to 4 years in prison.

White and Allen are awaiting trial. Their cases are tentatively scheduled for trial before Mears in February.
