Max Environmental near Yukon is proposing a seventh hazardous waste landfill on its property.

The company that treats and stores hazardous waste in landfills is expected to update South Huntingdon residents Thursday on its plans to build another impoundment area.

MAX Environmental Technologies Inc. of Greentree plans to hold a public meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Yukon Fire Hall, 124 Highway St., where it said it would share results of a study for a proposed seventh hazardous waste landfill. MAX wants to build the seventh landfill on part of its property between Millbell Road and Creek Road in neighboring Sewickley Township.

The company said it wanted to hold the meeting before submitting a permit application to the state Department of Environmental Protection.

MAX treats industrial and hazardous waste and stores the residual materials from steel mills and natural gas hydraulic fracturing, acidic pickle liquor from steel mill finishing plants, oils from steel factory rolling mills and sludge containing aluminum, iron, copper, nickel and zinc.

During the past few decades, neighbors have complained about the landfill. MAX Environmental has been cited by South Huntingdon and fined for violating ordinances regarding odors and dust from the landfill.
